Atomic-Scale Dynamic Mechanisms of Embedded MoS 2 Wires

Nanowires composed of a 1:1 stoichiometry of transition metals and chalcogen ions can be fabricated from two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) by using electron beam irradiation. Wires fabricated through in situ experiments can be geometrically connected to TMD sheets in various ways, and their physical properties can vary accordingly. Understanding the structural transformation caused by electron beams is critical for designing wire-sheet structures for nanoelectronics. In this study, we report the behavior of nanowires formed inside a monolayer MoS 2 sheet by combining phase-contrast images and large-scale atomistic modeling. Here we investigate the effect of vacancies on the dynamic evolution of wires, such as rotations with different edge structures and breaking, by considering the interactions between MoS wires and MoS 2 nanosheets. The obtained insights can be applied to other monolayer TMDs to guide the behavior of TMD wires and fabricate favorable geometries for various applications.

Metal Oxide Silicon /MOS/ transistors protected from destructive damage by wire

Loop of flexible, small diameter, nickel wire protects metal oxide silicon /MOS/ transistors from a damaging electrostatic potential. The wire is attached to a music-wire spring, slipped over the MOS transistor case, and released so the spring tensions the wire loop around all the transistor leads, shorting them together. This allows handling without danger of damage.

Adaptation of ion beam technology to microfabrication of solid state devices and transducers

It was found that ion beam texturing of silicon surfaces can be used to increase the effective surface area of MOS capacitors. There is, however, a problem with low dielectric breakdown. Preliminary work was begun on the fabrication of ion implanted resistors on textured surfaces and the potential improvement of wire bond strength by bonding to a textured surface. In the area of ion beam sputtering, the techniques for sputtering PVC were developed. A PVC target containing valinomycin was used to sputter an ion selective membrane on a field effect transistor to form a potassium ion sensor.

A multichannel implantable telemetry system for flow, pressure, and ECG measurements

The design, principles of operation, and performance of an implantable miniaturized (48 cu cm in volume) multiplex telemetry system for simultaneous measurement of up to eight physiological parameters (including cardiovascular data) are described. Integrated circuits are used to reduce the size, complexity, and cost of fabrication. Power consumption is reduced using recently developed complementary MOS devices. PWM technique is selected as it is relatively easy to implement, lends itself to ICs, and provides an accurate means of transmitting data. The system is totally implantable within the chest of a test animal, with no wire penetrating through the skin. It is shown that the described system permits repeated measurement of the physiological effects of a variety of interventions in awake unanesthetized animals.
