Pd-CeO 2 catalyst facilely derived from one-pot generated Pd@Ce-BTC for low temperature CO oxidation

Due to the capacity to offer abundant catalytic sites within porous solids featuring high surface areas, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and their derivatives have garnered considerable attention as prospective catalysts in environmental catalysis. Here, to promote the industrial application of MOFs, there is an urgent need for an effective and environmental-friendly preparation approach. Breaking through the limitation of the traditional two-step preparation method that Pd was introduced to the already prepared Ce-BTC (Pd/Ce-BTC, BTC = 1, 3, 5 benzenetricarboxylate), in this work, we present a novel one-pot solvothermal method for synthesizing the Pd material supported by Ce-BTC (Pd@Ce-BTC). After pyrolysis in N 2 flow or air flow, Pd-CeO 2 catalysts derived from Pd@Ce-BTC exhibited much higher CO oxidation activity than those from Pd/Ce-BTC. Moreover, Pd/Ce-BTC and Pd@Ce-BTC pyrolyzed in N 2 flow (Pd/Ce-BTC-N and Pd@Ce-BTC-N) could better catalyze the oxidation of CO than Pd/Ce-BTC and Pd@Ce-BTC pyrolyzed in air flow (Pd/Ce-BTC-A and Pd@Ce-BTC-A). Further characterizations revealed that the abundant surface Ce 3+ species, rich surface adsorbed oxygen species and superior redox properties were the main reasons for the superior CO oxidation activity of Pd@Ce-BTC-N.

Decreasing the Overpotential of Aprotic Li-CO 2 Batteries with the In-Plane Alloy Structure in Ultrathin 2D Ru-Based Nanosheets

We report the aprotic Li-CO 2 battery is emerging as a promising energy storage technology with the capability of CO 2 fixation and conversion. However, its practical applications are still impeded by the large overpotential. Herein, the general synthesis of a series of ultrathin 2D Ru-M (M = Co, Ni, and Cu) nanosheets by a facile one-pot solvothermal method is reported. As a proof-of-concept application, the representative RuCo nanosheets are used as the cathode catalysts for Li-CO 2 batteries, which demonstrate a low charge voltage of 3.74 V, a small overpotential of 0.94 V, and hence a high energy efficiency of 75%. Ex/in situ studies and density functional theory calculations reveal that the excellent catalytic performance of RuCo nanosheets originates from the enhanced adsorption toward Li and CO 2 during discharge as well as the elevated electron interaction with Li 2 CO 3 during charge by the in-plane RuCo alloy structure. This work indicates the feasibility of boosting the electrochemical performance of Li-CO 2 batteries by in-plane metal alloy sites of ultrathin 2D alloy nanomaterials.

Facile One-Pot Block Copolymer-Mediated Solvothermal Approach for Synthesis of High-Entropy Alloy with Enhanced OER Activity

Herein, we introduce a straightforward synthesis approach for highly active dendritic multimetallic high-entropy alloy (DMHEA@PtIrPdAgRu) nanoparticles with sufficient entropic mixing, featuring uniform distribution of five noble group metals (Pt, Ir, Pd, Ag, and Ru) via a block copolymer-mediated one-pot solvothermal reduction method for oxygen evolution reaction (OER). In this synthesis, N,N -dimethylformamide (DMF) is used as a reductant as well as solvent and core–shell-corona-type (poly(styrene)- block -poly(vinylpyridine)- block -poly(ethylene oxide)) (PS-PVP-PEO) block copolymer as a structure directing agent. The cooperative effect between the copolymer architecture and the reducing environment of DMF promoted a confined nucleation mechanism for forming a single-phase dendritic structure HEA with high compositional uniformity, thereby mitigating phase segregation, a common challenge in the synthesis of multimetallic nanoparticles. This prepared DMHEA@PtIrPdAgRu catalyst exhibits a low overpotential of 490 mV to attain a high current density of 100 mA cm –2 with a Tafel slope of 442 mV dec –1 for oxygen evolution. The superior OER performance is attributed to the synergistic cooperation among its active and coordinated metal centers as well as the incorporation of corrosion-resistant metal like platinum.

Lignin-based carbon quantum dots with high fluorescence performance prepared by supercritical catalysis and solvothermal treatment for tumor-targeted labeling

The poor fluorescence performance of lignin-based carbon quantum dots (L-CQDs) prepared using the bottom-up method has hindered their development. Here, in this study, a two-step strategy was proposed to efficiently enhance the fluorescence properties of L-CQDs. Lignin was first cracked using an ethanol supercritical/noble metal catalyst; then, the L-CQDs were prepared with the cracked lignin fragments as carbon precursors without adding any modified reagents. Compared with the OL-CQDs prepared by the traditional one-pot hydrothermal method, the L-CQDs-1 prepared from CL-1 containing much low molecular weight compounds, and have photoluminescence (increased from 63 to 975) and excellent up-conversion photoluminescence (enhanced by 16.3 to 963), which significantly enhanced by about 15 times and 60 times, respectively. They can emit bright blue fluorescence under both ultraviolet and near-infrared light irradiation owing to a large amount of surface defects caused by the rich compound composition. When L-CQDs-1 were combined with, and quenched by folic acid (FA), the prepared FA@L-CQDs-1 show the ability to target and label tumor cells. This study opens new avenues for the preparation of L-CQDs with high fluorescence performance using lignocellulosic material without heteroatom additives.
