HydraGNN_OPF_GFM_2026 - Ensemble of predictive graph foundation models for power grid applications

This dataset supports research on graph foundation models for optimal power flow (OPF) on electric grids using HydraGNN. It contains heterogeneous graph representations of PGLib-OPF cases spanning systems from 14 to 13,659 buses, together with packed HDF5 datasets for pretraining, feasibility classification, and N-1 contingency analysis. The release includes OPF solution data, downstream fine-tuning datasets, pretrained HeteroSAGE and HeteroHEAT model checkpoints, hyperparameter-optimization summaries across multiple heterogeneous GNN architectures, and aggregated fine-tuning results for sample-efficiency studies. The dataset is designed to enable scalable training, evaluation, and transfer-learning studies for OPF surrogate modeling, including node-level AC-OPF solution prediction, graph-level prediction, feasibility classification, operating-condition generalization, and contingency-response tasks.

OptiBench: An Optimization Benchmark Tool for Renewable Energy Problems

We propose a benchmark framework and visualization tool, OptiBench, for analyzing the performance of state-of-the-art optimization solvers across a variety of optimization problems in renewable energy research. Our framework is designed from the ground up in the Julia programming language and enables analysis at scale on high performance computing (HPC) systems. Our visualization tool allows effortless evaluation of optimization solver performance, robustness, and accuracy through intuitive plots, e.g., performance profiles, heat maps, and distribution plots. We have tested three benchmark suites relevant to the modeling of renewable energy systems, viz., CUTEst, PGLib-OPF, and WaterTAP water treatment optimization problems. We illustrate benchmarking of CUTEst using OptiBench on the National Renewable Energy Laboratory's (NREL) HPC Kestrel. Our findings indicate that MA57 HSL linear solver demonstrated the best overall performance for an experimental IPOPT implementation. Our work is ongoing and we intend to add support for more optimization solvers and benchmark test suites in the future.

Applications of Lifted Nonlinear Cuts to Convex Relaxations of the AC Power Flow Equations

Here, we demonstrate that valid inequalities, or lifted nonlinear cuts (LNC), can be projected to tighten the Second Order Cone (SOC), Convex DistFlow (CDF), and Network Flow (NF) relaxations of the AC Optimal Power Flow (AC-OPF) problem. We conduct experiments on 38 cases from the PGLib-OPF library, showing that the LNC strengthen the SOC and CDF relaxations in 100% of the test cases, with average and maximum differences in the optimality gaps of 6.2% and 17.5% respectively. The NF relaxation is strengthened in 46.2% of test cases, with average and maximum differences in the optimality gaps of 1.3% and 17.3% respectively. We also study the trade-off between relaxation quality and solve time, demonstrating that the strengthened CDF relaxation outperforms the strengthened SOC formulation in terms of runtime and number of iterations needed, while the strengthened NF formulation is the most scalable with the lowest relaxation quality improvement due to these LNC.
