Semiautomatic device tests components with biaxial leads

Semiautomatic device with a four-terminal network tests quantities of components having biaxial leads. The four-terminal network permits the testing of components in different environments. This device is easily modified for completely automatic operation.

Semiautomatic inspection of microfilm records

Semiautomatic machine inspects microfilm for deficiencies. Advantages of microfilm inspector are uniformity of inspection method, increased speed of inspection, and improved quality through elimination of scratches and finger marks.

Semiautomatic Design Of Zonal Computational Grids

EZGrid is knowledge-based computer program semiautomatically generating zonal computational grids for use in numerical simulations of two-dimensional flows. Zoning necessary because of limitations imposed by size of available computer memory and by topological complexity of typical flow field. Complexity and amount of required memory reduced by dividing flow field into zones, within each of which computational grid refined only to extent necessary to resolve local high gradients. Developed to speed and systematize zoning.

Semiautomatic labeling of small wires

Semi-automatic-wire labeling equipment installs heat-shrink identification sleeves on small-diameter wires for moderate-size production runs. Supply reel contains wire of desired diameter and is cut into lengths set on the measuring rolls. Required number of identification sleeves are slipped over wire, which is then placed through sleeve-releasing mechanism. Sleeves are shrunk at 350 degrees F in an infrared oven.

Semiautomatic Probe-And-Drogue Attachment Mechanism

Spring-loaded pawls provide quick coupling. As probe enters drogue during coupling, three spring-loaded pawls in probe latch probe in drogue, preventing accidental uncoupling. Then worm-gear mechanism turned by standard 0.25-in. (6.35-mm) tool transfers motion to central threaded shaft, extending cap at tip of probe until all play taken up. This centers probe in drogue and renders coupling pawls to extend again. New mechanism useful for coupling modular components in other applications where ease and security of attachment, precise final alignment, and ease of removal important and where stresses and bending reasonably low.

Rapid fitting of particle cascade development data from X-ray film densitometry measurements

A semiautomatic method of fitting transition curves to X-ray film optical density measurements of electromagnetic particle cascades is described. Several hundred singly and multiple interacting cosmic ray events from the JACEE 8 balloon flights were analyzed using this procedure. In addition to greatly increased speed compared to the previous manual method, the semiautomatic method offers increased accuracy through maximum likelihood fitting.

WFOT: A Wave Function Overlap Tool between Single- and Multi-Reference Electronic Structure Methods for Spectroscopy Simulation

We report the development of a novel diagnostic tool, named wave function overlap tool (WFOT), designed to evaluate the overlap between wave functions computed at single-reference [i.e., time-dependent density functional theory or configuration interaction singles (CIS)] and multireference (i.e., CASSCF/CASPT2) electronic structure levels of theory. It relies on truncating the single- and multireference WFs to CIS-like expansions spanning the same configurational space and maximizing the molecular orbital overlap by means of a unitary transformation. To demonstrate the functionality of the tool, we calculate the transient spectrum of acetylacetone by evaluating excited state absorption signals with multireference quality on top of single-reference on-the-fly dynamics simulations. Semiautomatic spectra generation is facilitated by interfacing the tool with the COBRAMM package, which also allows one to use WFOT with several quantum chemistry codes such as Gaussian, NWChem, and OpenMolcas. Finally, other exciting possibilities for the utilization of the code beyond the simulation of transient absorption spectroscopy are eventually discussed.

Weld procedure produces quality welds for thick sections of Hastelloy-X

Welding program produces premium quality, multipass welds in heavy tube sections of Hastelloy-X. It develops semiautomatic tungsten/inert gas procedures, weld wire procurement specifications material weld properties, welder-operator training, and nondestructive testing inspection techniques and procedures.

Tube welding and brazing

Brochures outline the tools, equipment, materials, and techniques used for joining tubes by automatic and semiautomatic welding and brazing. A few of the metals being joined are stainless steels of various diameters and thickness. Techniques have been developed for on-site or work-bench repair.

Poorman, R. M.

Spinarc gas tungsten arc torch holder

Semiautomatic welding torch enables operator to control arc length, torch angle, and spring tension when welding small diameter aluminum tubing. Tungsten is preset for the weld to make arc initiation easier and to eliminate searching for the joint through a dark welding lens.

Slide checkout console

Semiautomatic 35-mm photographic slide checkout console optically and electronically verifies registration of slides at a minimum rate of 250/hr. The console compares slide registration with a registration standard within the console. It verifies a binary code number on the bottom of the slide and visually displays its equivalent.
