Mode-Switching Algorithms For Antenna Servocontroller

New algorithms proposed to reduce acceleration and velocity perturbations caused by transitions between control modes of servocontrol system. Consists of position-control loop closed around rate (velocity)-control loop. Rate loop analog type-1 controller. Rate command (voltage) from position-loop controller compared to filtered tachometer feedback rate (voltage) to create rate error. Rate loop adjusts actuator-command signal to null rate error, causing antenna to turn at commanded rates.

Improved servocontrol system

System combines error signal with output of deadband circuit, which offsets any decrease in gain of error circuit for rapid changes in input signal.

Life prediction and constitutive behavior: Overview

The evolution of programs to investigate high temperature consititutive behavior and develop cyclic life prediction methods is reviewed. Contracts granted for developing and verifying workable engineering methods for the calculation, in advance of service, of the local stress-strain response at the critical life governing location in typical hot section components as well as the resultant cyclic crack initiation and crack growth lifetimes are listed. The Langley fatigue facility is being upgraded to include: (1) a servocontrolled testing machine for high temperature crack growth; (2) three servocontrolled tension/torsion machines for biaxial studies; (3) a HOST/satellite computer for data acquisition, processing, storage, and retrieval; and (4) HCV/LCF machines for cumulative damage studies.

Interface For Fault-Tolerant Control System

Interface unit and controller emulator developed for research on electronic helicopter-flight-control systems equipped with artificial intelligence. Interface unit interrupt-driven system designed to link microprocessor-based, quadruply-redundant, asynchronous, ultra-reliable, fault-tolerant control system (controller) with electronic servocontrol unit that controls set of hydraulic actuators. Receives digital feedforward messages from, and transmits digital feedback messages to, controller through differential signal lines or fiber-optic cables (thus far only differential signal lines have been used). Analog signals transmitted to and from servocontrol unit via coaxial cables.

Tension is servo controlled in film advance system

Servocontrol device feeds film into a roller system. Two linear potentiometers connected to spring loaded tension rollers furnish servo input signal. Can be used in any continuous material transport system.

Pilot-booster control valve

Two-stage, pressure-sensing control valve is designed for servocontrol of 10-inch main tank valve regulating pressure of liquid oxygen in tank and serving to vent tank during filling. Valve uses a negative-rate Belleville spring to cancel positive spring rates of bellows and coil springs.
