Logic circuitry used to automatically test shielded cables

Automatic cable tester checks multiple shielded conductors assembly cable connections. The tester uses logic circuitry to sequentially test all conductors and their shields to reveal any connection error in a GO-NO GO test.

Variable load automatically tests dc power supplies

Continuously variable load automatically tests dc power supplies over an extended current range. External meters monitor current and voltage, and multipliers at the outputs facilitate plotting the power curve of the unit.

Experimental Applications of Automatic Test Markup Language (ATML)

The authors describe challenging use-cases for Automatic Test Markup Language (ATML), and evaluate solutions. The first case uses ATML Test Results to deliver active features to support test procedure development and test flow, and bridging mixed software development environments. The second case examines adding attributes to Systems Modelling Language (SysML) to create a linkage for deriving information from a model to fill in an ATML document set. Both cases are outside the original concept of operations for ATML but are typical when integrating large heterogeneous systems with modular contributions from multiple disciplines.

Applying Independent Verification and Validation to Automatic Test Equipment

This paper describes a general overview of applying Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) to Automatic Test Equipment (ATE). The overview is not inclusive of all IV&V activities that can occur or of all development and maintenance items that can be validated and verified, during the IV&V process. A sampling of possible IV&V activities that can occur within each phase of the ATE life cycle are described.

UFC advisor: An AI-based system for the automatic test environment

The Air Logistics Command within the Air Force is responsible for maintaining a wide variety of aircraft fleets and weapon systems. To maintain these fleets and systems requires specialized test equipment that provides data concerning the behavior of a particular device. The test equipment is used to 'poke and prod' the device to determine its functionality. The data represent voltages, pressures, torques, temperatures, etc. and are called testpoints. These testpoints can be defined numerically as being in or out of limits/tolerance. Some test equipment is termed 'automatic' because it is computer-controlled. Due to the fact that effective maintenance in the test arena requires a significant amount of expertise, it is an ideal area for the application of knowledge-based system technology. Such a system would take testpoint data, identify values out-of-limits, and determine potential underlying problems based on what is out-of-limits and how far. This paper discusses the application of this technology to a device called the Unified Fuel Control (UFC) which is maintained in this manner.

Application of software technology to automatic test data analysis

The verification process for a major software subsystem was partially automated as part of a feasibility demonstration. The methods employed are generally useful and applicable to other types of subsystems. The effort resulted in substantial savings in test engineer analysis time and offers a method for inclusion of automatic verification as a part of regression testing.

Fault injection based automatic testing - Practice and examples

This report addresses the problem of ascertaining the quantitative properties of dependable distributed systems. The approach is based on fault injection experimentation with two distinct real-time workloads using a fault-injection-based automated testing environment. Experimental results are presented which indicate dependability properties (e.g., error detection coverage, error latency) based on a limited number of fault injections.

System Measures Logic-Gate Delays

Many gates on chip tested automatically. Automatic testing system measures signal-propagation delays of experimental integrated-circuit array of logic gates. Includes controlling computer, counter/time, and feedback-controlled timing-waveform generator. Multiplexer included on integrated-circuit chip with logic-gate array to be tested. Delays measured by system serve as valuable data for design of fast logic and memory chips.

Development report: Automatic System Test and Calibration (ASTAC) equipment

A microcomputer based automatic test system was developed for the daily performance monitoring of wind energy system time domain (WEST) analyzer. The test system consists of a microprocessor based controller and hybrid interface unit which are used for inputing prescribed test signals into all WEST subsystems and for monitoring WEST responses to these signals. Performance is compared to theoretically correct performance levels calculated off line on a large general purpose digital computer. Results are displayed on a cathode ray tube or are available from a line printer. Excessive drift and/or lack of repeatability of the high speed analog sections within WEST is easily detected and the malfunctioning hardware identified using this system.
