Bounded Solutions of Hyperbolic Boundary-Value Problems

We investigate linear boundary-value problems for the first-order one-dimensional hyperbolic systems in a strip and establish conditions for the existence and uniqueness of bounded continuous solutions. For this purpose, we suppose that the nondiagonal part of the zero-order coefficients vanish at infinity. Moreover, we establish a dissipativity condition in terms of the boundary data and determine the diagonal part of the zero-order coefficients.

Gaussian process regression constrained by boundary value problems

We develop a framework for Gaussian processes regression constrained by boundary value problems. The framework may be applied to infer the solution of a well-posed boundary value problem with a known second-order differential operator and boundary conditions, but for which only scattered observations of the source term are available. Scattered observations of the solution may also be used in the regression. The framework combines co-kriging with the linear transformation of a Gaussian process together with the use of kernels given by spectral expansions in eigenfunctions of the boundary value problem. Furthermore, it benefits from a reduced-rank property of covariance matrices. We demonstrate that the resulting framework yields more accurate and stable solution inference as compared to physics-informed Gaussian process regression without boundary condition constraints.

Boundary Value Problems for Nonclassical Systems of Second Order Differential Equations

We study boundary value problems for systems of second order differential equations with principal part in the form of the squared first order differential operator. We establish the unique solvability of the boundary value problem for a nonclassical system in the plane, which can be regarded as the Riemann–Hilbert problem with discontinuous boundary conditions. Similar problems are considered in the space.

Systems of Functions Orthogonal Over the Domain and Their Application in Boundary-Value Problems of Mathematical Physics

We formulate a boundary-value problem for eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the Helmholtz equation in a complex domain with the use of mutually conjugated complex variables. The obtained systems of functions are orthogonal in this domain and constructed by using the Bessel functions and powers of the conformal mappings of the analyzed domains onto a circle. The solutions of boundary-value problems for the principal equations of mathematical physics (hyperbolic, parabolic and elliptic types) are obtained in the form of the sums of series in the systems of functions orthogonal over the domain.

Boundary-Value Problems with Impulsive Conditions for Parabolic Equations with Degenerations

We consider the first boundary-value problem and the unilateral boundary-value problem with impulsive conditions with respect to the time variable for a linear parabolic equation with power singularities of any order in the space variables. With the help of the maximum principle and a priori estimates, we establish the existence and uniqueness of the solutions of the posed problems in the Hölder spaces with power weights.

Multiple Solutions of Boundary-Value Problems for Hamiltonian Systems

We consider two-point boundary-value problems for a Hamiltonian system of the form x′ = f(k, y), y′ = g(x, 𝜆), where k and 𝜆 are parameters. The numbers of solutions, both positive and oscillatory, for the boundary-value problems are estimated. Our main tool is the analysis of the phase plane combined with the evaluation of time-map functions. The bifurcation diagram and solution curves are constructed for the Hamiltonian system. We also present examples illustrating the bifurcations with respect to the parameters k and 𝜆:.

On the numerical algorithms of parametrization method for solving a two-point boundary-value problem for impulsive systems of loaded differential equations

A linear two-point boundary value problem for a system of loaded differential equations with impulse effect is investigated. Values in the previous impulse points are taken into consideration in the conditions of impulse effect. The considered problem is reduced to an equivalent multi-point boundary value problem for the system of ordinary differential equations with parameters. A numerical implementation of parametrization method is offered using the Runge–Kutta method of 4th-order accuracy for solving the Cauchy problems for ordinary differential equations. The constructed numerical algorithms are illustrated by examples.

Initial-Boundary Value Problem for the Non-Stationary Radiative Transfer Equation with Fresnel Reflection and Refraction Conditions

We consider the initial-boundary value problems for the nonstationary radiative transfer equation in a system of semitransparent bodies with boundary and initial data in the complete scale of Lebesgue spaces. We establish the unique solvability of the first initial-boundary value problem, the problem with “shooting conditions,” and the problem with Fresnel reflection and refraction conditions on the body boundaries.

Continuous Dependence on Translations of the Independent Variable for Solutions of Boundary-Value Problems for Differential-Difference Equations

We consider boundary-value problems for differential-difference operators with perturbations in translations of the independent variable. We prove that the family of differential-difference operators is positive definite uniformly with respect to translations of the independent variable. Solutions of such problems depend continuously on these translations. We consider the coercivity problem for differential-difference operators with incommensurable translations of the independent variable and study the approximation of such operators by rational operators.

Solution of Periodic Boundary-Value Problems of the Spatial Theory of Elasticity in the Vector Form

We discuss boundary-value problems for the system of equations of the spatial theory of elasticity in the class of double-periodic functions and obtain a general solution of the system. We distinguish six types of elementary Floquet waves and examine their energy characteristics. We consider fundamental boundary-value problems in the half-space in the vector form. The diffraction problem for an elastic wave on a periodic system of defects in the vector form is reduced to the paired summator functional equation.

Fundamental Solutions for Two-Point Boundary Value Problems in Orbital Mechanics

We consider a two-point boundary value problem (TPBVP) in orbital mechanics involving a small body (e.g., a spacecraft or asteroid) and N larger bodies. The least action principle TPBVP formulation is converted into an initial value problem via the addition of an appropriate terminal cost to the action functional. The latter formulation is used to obtain a fundamental solution, which may be used to solve the TPBVP for a variety of boundary conditions within a certain class. In particular, the method of convex duality allows one to interpret the least action principle as a differential game, where an opposing player maximizes over an indexed set of quadratics to yield the gravitational potential. In the case where the time duration is less than a specific bound, there exists a unique critical point for the resulting differential game, which yields the fundamental solution given in terms of the solutions of associated Riccati equations.

Autonomous Noether Boundary-Value Problems not Solved with Respect to the Derivative

In monographs of N. V. Azbelev, A. M. Samoilenko, and A. A. Boichuk, constructive methods of study of Noether boundary-value problems have been developed. These methods continue the investigation of periodic problems stated by H. Poincaré, A. M. Lyapunov, N. M. Krylov, N. N. Bogolyubov, I. G. Malkin, and O. Veivoda by the methods of small parameter. We propose an improved scheme of study of autonomous Noether boundary-value problems for nonlinear systems in critical cases. In the case of multiple roots of the equation for generating constants, we obtain sufficient conditions of existence of solutions to an autonomous boundary-value problem not solved with respect to the derivative. The effectiveness of the scheme proposed is illustrated by an example of the periodic problem for the Liénard equation.

On the Solvability of a Matrix Boundary-Value Problem

We found solvability conditions and a construction of the generalized Green operator for a linear matrix boundary-value problem; we present an operator that reduces a linear matrix equation to the conventional linear Noether boundary-value problem. To solve a linear matrix system, we use the operator that reduces a linear matrix equation to a linear algebraic equation with a rectangular matrix.

We consider the class of boundary value problems for elliptic, parabolic, and hyperbolic equations in cylinders separated by a two-layer film into two half-cylinders. We prove the existence and uniqueness theorem and express the solutions in terms of solutions to analogous classical problems in cylinders without films.

Nonlinear Deformation and Branching of the Solutions of Boundary-Value Problems of the Theory of Shells with Delaminations Under External Pressure

We consider the structure of branching of the solution of a nonlinear boundary-value problem of the theory of shells in the case of cylindrical shell with delamination area subjected to the action of external pressure. To find the solution, we use the generalized Kantorovich method applied to the analysis of the corresponding boundary-value problem. The complete structure of branching is presented for the solutions of the problem. We establish the existence of branches of the solution both with forms of deformation and joint deformation of the layers and with forms of deformation and separate deformation of the layers in the delamination region.
