MITRE Domain Specific Language (DSL) for synthetic biology workflows (CRADA Final Report)

MITRE is currently developing BioNet, a network designed to facilitate the work of biologist collaborators that are distributed across multiple organizations. BioNet is envisaged to break down traditional barriers in biology, allowing for an integrated, service-based approach to projects which can utilize expertise from any participating entity. This disaggregation fosters innovation by enabling contributions from multiple sources. The public will benefit from the development of the BioNet (to which this project contributes), in that this fostered innovation could positively contribute to our economy.

Towards a Verifiable Domain-Specific Language for Hardware-Accelerated Stencils

Defining a domain-specific language (DSL) that supports vector-calculus abstractions eases the porting of partial differential equation (PDE) solvers to specialized architectures. Sufficiently high-level abstractions empower users to express universal laws with sufficient generality that the laws must always hold true within their domain of validity. A broad class of PDE solvers employs stencil-based algorithms, the target domain of Berkeley Lab's stencil accelerator chip co-design project. First released as open-source in January 2026, the Formal software framework lays a foundation for defining an embedded DSL based on composable operators that implement mimetic numerical methods -- stencil algorithms that guarantee satisfaction of discrete versions of important vector calculus theorems. The Formal DSL will be the frontend to a new class of stencil-PDE accelerators developed jointly by LBNL, UHCL, and UC Berkeley through the DOE Competitive Portfolios for Computer Science Project. This offers the potential of an order of magnitude acceleration for this important category of computational methods to serve the DOE mission. Future work on the Formal DSL will facilitate software verification via type-safe templates that enable problem-specific correctness proofs relying upon generic function theory and carefully crafted unit tests.

Genesis: A Compiler Framework for Hamiltonian Simulation on Hybrid CV-DV Quantum Computers

We introduce Genesis, the first compiler designed to support Hamiltonian Simulation on hybrid continuous-variable (CV) and discrete-variable (DV) quantum computing systems. Genesis is a two-level compilation system. At the first level, it decomposes an input Hamiltonian into basis gates using the native instruction set of the target hybrid CV-DV quantum computer. At the second level, it tackles the mapping and routing of qumodes/qubits to implement long-range interactions for the gates decomposed from the first level. Rather than a typical implementation that relies on SWAP primitives similar to qubit-based (or DV-only) systems, we propose an integrated design of connectivity-aware gate synthesis and beamsplitter SWAP insertion tailored for hybrid CV-DV systems. We also introduce an OpenQASM-like domain-specific language (DSL) named CVDV-QASM to represent Hamiltonian in terms of Pauli-exponentials and basic gate sequences from the hybrid CVDV gate set. Genesis has successfully compiled several important Hamiltonians, including the Bose-Hubbard model, Z2−Higgs model, Hubbard-Holstein model, Heisenberg model and Electron-vibration coupling Hamiltonians, which are critical in domains like quantum field theory, condensed matter physics, and quantum chemistry. Fortran mimetic abstraction language (Formal) v0.1.

The Fortran mimetic abstraction language ("Formal") is a domain-specific language (DSL) embedded in Fortran 202Y [1]. Formal provides novel software abstractions for simulating phenomena governed by the partial differential equations (PDEs) of vector and tensor calculus. Such equations model an extremely broad set of physical phenomena, ranging from atmospheric winds to light propagation. Formal's data structures and algorithms mimic in form and behavior continuous functions and operators. Formal supports these mathematical constructs using mimetic discretizations that define a discrete calculus satisfying various tensor calculus theorems, thereby ensuring high-fidelity representations of the physics being modeled. [2] Formal 0.1.0 also lays a foundation for the future use of Fortran 202Y type-safe templates to facilitate the formal verification of tensor contractions in computational physics and artificial intelligence [3]. eCC++ : A Compiler Construction Framework for Embedded Domain-Specific Languages

eCC++ is a new compiler construction framework for embedding domain-specific programming languages within C++. That is, the host language is C++, the guest language is the DSL to be embedded in C++, and eCC++ is the tool that enables the embedding. The eCC++ framework is composed of three main components: a front-end, an API for program verification based on a functional and declarative intermediate representation (IR), and a Multi-Level Intermediate Representation (MLIR) code generator. The eCC++ front-end consists of a library of C++ classes and operators that can be used to define the guest language. Guest sources are compiled with any standard C++ compiler, and when run, the resulting executable generates an eCC++ IR representation of the program, which can be verified within the eCC++ framework. Finally, eCC++ allows for high-level and domain-specific optimizations before generating MLIR. In summary, eCC++ aims to act as a generic front-end that enables embedding guest languages into C++, and provides necessary compiler technology for program verification, targeting the existing capabilities in the MLIR infrastructure. The paper evaluates the eCC++ expressiveness and usability describing the process of embedding GraphIt, a high-performance graph language in C++.

arco (Assembled Resource-Constrained Optimization) [SWR-26-030]

Arco (Assembled Resource-Constrained Optimization) is a memory-smart optimization DSL and solver for LP and MIP problems on constrained hardware. The software is an optimization framework built around a KDL-based domain-specific language and a CLI compiler/solver. You write optimization models in .kdl files, and the arco CLI compiles, validates, inspects, and solves them. Language bindings (Python today, more planned) provide programmatic access to the same engine. Built for harder optimization problems on constrained resources, Arco is intentional about every allocation, careful with stack and heap behavior, and relentless about minimizing memory usage so more systems can run real workloads. Arco is built primarily for internal use within our organization. You are welcome to try it, but we make no guarantees about API stability or robustness at this stage
