Concerning the electrosynthesis of hydrogen peroxide and peroxodisulfates. Section 2: Optimization of electrolysis cells using an electrolyzer for peroxodisulfuric acid as an example

The model is presented of an electrolyzer for peroxodisulfuric acid, and it is analyzed mathematically. Its application for engineering and economic optimization is investigated in detail. The mathematical analysis leads to conclusions concerning the change in position of the optimum with respect to the various target functions due to changes of the individual design-caused and economic parameters.

In Situ Electrosynthesis of Polymethyl Methacrylate Within Ceramic Launch Pad Materials

Electrokinetic deposition of methylmethacrylate is used to mitigate corrosion in reinforced concrete. The methylmethacrylate (MMA) monomer deposits in the pores in the concrete where it is converted into its polymer, polymethylmethacrylate, thus creating a barrier that also enhances the mechanical properties of the concrete. Previous to the MMA treatment an Electrokinetic deposition is used to transport calcium, sodium and potassium hydroxide particles through the capillary pores of concrete directly to the concrete reinforcement. The intent is to use these compounds as a sacrificial electrode layer during the electrokinetic deposition of methylmethacrylate monomer. Cylindrical reinforced concrete specimens were subjected to electrokinetic treatment and the specimens were tested to characterize porosity reduction and tensile splitting strength showing an increase in the tensile strength. In addition, nine specimens treated electro-kinetically and in long-term atmospheric exposure testing at NASA's Kennedy Space Center, seaside atmospheric exposure test site were tested to determine their corrosion rate.

The non-mass-dependent oxygen isotope effect in the electrodissociation of carbon dioxide - A step toward understanding NoMaD chemistry

A non-mass dependent (NoMaD) oxygen isotope effect is demonstrated in the dissociation of CO2 similar to that observed in the electrosynthesis of ozone. The molecular oxygen produced carries the signature of two separate isotopic fractionation processes; a mass-dependent fractionation probably due to CO2 + O isotopic exchange, and a secondary NoMaD fractionation (delta O-17 = 0.97 + or - 0.09 delta O-18, with the O2 depleted in O-17 and O-18). It is suggested that the effect is due to either the formation or relaxation of ozone in an excited electronic state. This represents the latest advance in the understanding of chemical NoMaD effects which may be essential to the explanation of non-mass-dependent fractionations observed in meteorites.

Research Help

The Electrosynthesis Co. Inc.'s Electrocinerator System integrates a highly effective air scrubber with an electrochemical cell to provide an apparatus capable of destroying virtually all toxic chemicals and airborne bacteria. Project (funded by DOD) is prospective means of decontaminating airborne chemicals and biological warfare agents. Also has broad civil use applicable to hospitals for destruction of airborne viruses and bacteria, and industrial use for elimination of toxic solvent vapors and malodorous emissions.
