An algorithm to generate input data from meteorological and space shuttle observations to validate a CH4-CO model

Objective procedures to analyze data from meteorological and space shuttle observations to validate a three dimensional model were investigated. The transport and chemistry of carbon monoxide and methane in the troposphere were studied. Four aspects were examined: (1) detailed evaluation of the variational calculus procedure, with the equation of continuity as a strong constraint, for adjustment of global tropospheric wind fields; (2) reduction of the National Meteorological Center (NMC) data tapes for data input to the OSTA-1/MAPS Experiment; (3) interpolation of the NMC Data for input to the CH4-CO model; and (4) temporal and spatial interpolation procedures of the CO measurements from the OSTA-1/MAPS Experiment to generate usable contours of the data.

VORTAB - A data-tablet method of developing input data for the VORLAX program

A method of developing an input data file for use in the aerodynamic analysis of a complete airplane with the VORLAX computer program is described. The hardware consists of an interactive graphics terminal equipped with a graphics tablet. Software includes graphics routines from the Tektronix PLOT 10 package as well as the VORTAB program described. The user determines the size and location of each of the major panels for the aircraft before using the program. Data is entered both from the terminal keyboard and the graphics tablet. The size of the resulting data file is dependent on the complexity of the model and can vary from ten to several hundred card images. After the data are entered, two programs READB and PLOTB, are executed which plot the configuration allowing visual inspection of the model.

Modifications to the WDTVOR and VORTWD computer programs for converting input data between VORLAX and wave drag input formats

Computer programs, WDTVOR and VORTWD, were developed to convert input data between wave drag and VORLAX input formats. Both programs were modified to include the capability of converting multisegment fuselage data. The capability of converting VORLAX geometric data to wave drag format without camber as well as with camber was added to the VORTWD program. Listings of the original program, the modifications, and the modified program are included for both programs.

A three-dimensional potential-flow program with a geometry package for input data generation

Information needed to run a computer program for the calculation of the potential flow about arbitrary three dimensional lifting configurations is presented. The program contains a geometry package which greatly reduces the task of preparing the input data. Starting from a very sparse set of coordinate data, the program automatically augments and redistributes the coordinates, calculates curves of intersection between components, and redistributes coordinates in the regions adjacent to the intersection curves in a suitable manner for use in the potential flow calculations. A brief summary of the program capabilities and options is given, as well as detailed instructions for the data input, a suggested structure for the program overlay, and the output for two test cases.

A geometry package for generation of input data for a three-dimensional potential-flow program

The preparation of geometric data for input to three-dimensional potential flow programs was automated and simplified by a geometry package incorporated into the NASA Langley version of the 3-D lifting potential flow program. Input to the computer program for the geometry package consists of a very sparse set of coordinate data, often with an order of magnitude of fewer points than required for the actual potential flow calculations. Isolated components, such as wings, fuselages, etc. are paneled automatically, using one of several possible element distribution algorithms. Curves of intersection between components are calculated, using a hybrid curve-fit/surface-fit approach. Intersecting components are repaneled so that adjacent elements on either side of the intersection curves line up in a satisfactory manner for the potential-flow calculations. Many cases may be run completely (from input, through the geometry package, and through the flow calculations) without interruption. Use of the package significantly reduces the time and expense involved in making three-dimensional potential flow calculations.

RE-INTEGRATE EMT Simulation Tool: Input Data Processing Layer for Bulk Power System

This paper introduces an advanced input data processing layer for EMT simulations of large-scale bulk power systems. The paper proposes two versions of the RE-INTEGRATE EMT simulation tool, RE-INTEGRATE Gen-0 and RE-INTEGRATE Gen-1, which are developed to enhance simulation generalizability, scalability, and accuracy. The framework leverages a generic class design for components to incorporate linear equations, which are generated by discretizing the Differential-Algebraic Equations (DAEs) that represent the dynamics of the components. In addition, the framework employs a parsing algorithm that parses a power system’s raw and dyr files to generate a connectivity graph which is then traversed to form the overall system’s dynamics. The proposed input data processing layer is used to simulate the IEEE 39-bus test system. The obtained results demonstrate the framework’s capability to achieve simulation scalability and accuracy. Further, the results indicate that EMT simulations performed using the proposed automations can effectively handle complex grid configurations.
