A 90 ° bend curved light-guide for TOF scintillating detectors

We report here a bench study of TOF resolution using a 90° bend curved solid light-guide (LG) used to transport the light from a plastic scintillator counter to a photomultiplier (PMT). The 90° LG allows the rotation of the PMT axis to be vertical to the detector axis, in an environment featured by a strong magnetic field along the detector surface, or other geometrical constrains. We show that with a TOF counter of 2000 x 100 x 60 mm 3 and light read-out by PMTs at its two 100 × 60 mm 2 sides, when 90° LG benders are used between the scintillating bar and the PMTs on both sides, the TOF resolution is worsen, by 5–10%.

Adiabatic light guide with S-shaped strips

A light guide is an essential part of many scintillator counters and light collection systems. Our main interest is a light guide for a thin, wide scintillator that has high light transmission while converting the area of the light source to the shape of a photo-detector. Here, we propose a variation of the light guide that avoids a 90° twist of the strips, reduces the length of the light pipe, and reduces the complexity of production. Detailed Monte Carlo simulation studies have been performed for a three-strip S-shaped light-guide system.

Multi-modality deep learning for pulse prediction in homogeneous nonlinear systems via parametric conversion

In this Letter, we introduce FusionNet, a multi-modality deep learning framework designed to predict and analyze output pulses in high-power rare-earth-doped laser systems driving parametric conversion in homogeneous guided nonlinear media. FusionNet integrates temporal, spectral, and physical experimental conditions to model ultrafast nonlinear phenomena, including parametric nonlinear frequency conversion, self-phase modulation, and cross-phase modulation in homogeneous guided systems such as gas-filled hollow-core fibers. These systems bridge physical models with experimental data, advancing our understanding of light-guiding principles and nonlinear interactions while expediting the design and optimization of on-demand high-power, high-brightness systems. Our results demonstrate a 73% reduction in prediction error and an 83% improvement in computational efficiency compared to conventional neural networks. This work establishes a new paradigm for accelerating parametric simulations and optimizing experimental designs in high-power laser systems, with further implications for high-precision spectroscopy, quantum information science, and distributed entangled interconnects.

Volumetric Shaping of Nanoparticle-DNA Crystals by Light-Induced Milling

DNA-programmable self-assembly enables the formation of nanoparticle crystals with controlled lattice symmetry. While this approach offers the formation of complexly ordered nanostructures for optical, mechanical, and biological applications, a mesoscale control over such nanomaterials is limited. Directing the material formation process through the assembly pathway or external fields allows for modulating crystal morphology, but achieving arbitrary morphology remains challenging. Here, we present a photothermal method for shaping 3D DNA-programmable crystals of gold nanoparticles. Through local heating of nanoparticles due to plasmonic light absorption, we induce targeted volumetric dissolution of specifically defined crystal areas with micron-scale accuracy. This technique effectively prescribes crystal shaping and creates arbitrarily shaped voids within crystals. We further investigate both computationally and experimentally the key factors governing volumetric material subtraction. The developed automated light-milling platform enables the fabrication of nanomaterials exhibiting both DNA-programmable nanoscale order and custom-designed mesoscale architecture.
