Floquet engineering bulk odd-frequency superconducting pairs

Here we introduce the concept of Floquet odd-frequency superconducting pairs and establish their emergence in time-periodic conventional superconductors. We show that these exotic Cooper pairs are possible because the Floquet modes in time-periodic systems provide an additional index (a Floquet index) that broadens the classification of superconducting pair symmetries, with no analog in the static regime. Our results thus put forward a different route for odd-frequency superconducting pairs, and pave the way for Floquet engineered dynamical superconducting states.

Disorder-robust $\textit{p}$-wave pairing with odd-frequency dependence in normal metal–conventional superconductor junctions [plus supplemental information]

We investigate the induced superconducting pair correlations in junctions between a conventional spin-singlet s-wave superconductor and a disordered normal metal. Decomposing the pair amplitude based on its symmetries in the time domain, we demonstrate that the odd-time, or equivalently odd-frequency, spin-singlet p-wave correlations are both significant in size and entirely robust against random nonmagnetic disorder. We find that these odd-frequency correlations can even be generated by disorder. Our results show that anisotropic odd-frequency pairing represent an important fraction of the proximity-induced correlations in disordered superconducting hybrid structures.

Breakdown of order fractionalization in the CPT model

Here, we present an analysis of the half-filled CPT model, an analytically tractable Kondo lattice model with Yao-Lee spin-spin interactions on a 3D hyperoctagon lattice, proposed by Coleman, Panigrahi, and Tsvelik. Previous studies have established that the CPT model exhibits odd-frequency triplet superconductivity and order fractionalization. Through asymptotic analyses in the small- and large- Kondo coupling limits, we identify a quantum critical point at , marking a transition from a superconductor to a Kondo insulator. By estimating the vison gap energy to account for thermal gauge fluctuations, we determine the energy scales governing the thermal breakdown of order fractionalization. Moreover, at large the Kondo insulator undergoes orbital decoupling, leading to the formation of a decoupled Kitaev orbital liquid. These findings and analogies with the -gauged model lead us to propose a tentative phase diagram for the CPT model at half-filling.

Fluctuation-induced odd-frequency spin-triplet pairing in a disordered electron liquid

Here we consider a two-dimensional disordered conductor in the regime when the superconducting phase is destroyed by the magnetic field. We analyze a combination of fluctuations of different origin which results in an effective interaction amplitude suitable for a spontaneous s-wave odd-frequency pairing instability. We observe that the end point of the superconductivity is a quantum critical point separating the conventional superconducting phase from a state with the odd-frequency spin-triplet pairing instability. We speculate that this could shed light on a rather mysterious insulating state observed in strongly disordered superconducting films in a broad region of the magnetic fields.

Localized-to-itinerant transition preceding antiferromagnetic quantum critical point and gapless superconductivity in CeRh 0.5 Ir 0.5 In 5

A fundamental problem posed from the study of correlated electron compounds, of which heavy-fermion systems are prototypes, is the need to understand the physics of states near a quantum critical point (QCP). At a QCP, magnetic order is suppressed continuously to zero temperature and unconventional superconductivity often appears. Here, we report pressure ( P )-dependent 115 In nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) measurements on heavy-fermion antiferromagnet CeRh 0.5 Ir 0.5 In 5 . These experiments reveal an antiferromagnetic (AF) QCP at \({P}_{{\rm{c}}}^{{\rm{AF}}}=1.2\) GPa where a dome of superconductivity reaches a maximum transition temperature T c . Preceding \({P}_{{\rm{c}}}^{{\rm{AF}}}\) , however, the NQR frequency ν Q undergoes an abrupt increase at \({P}_{{\rm{c}}}^{{\rm{* }}}\) = 0.8 GPa in the zero-temperature limit, indicating a change from localized to itinerant character of cerium’s f -electron and associated small-to-large change in the Fermi surface. At \({P}_{{\rm{c}}}^{{\rm{AF}}}\) where T c is optimized, there is an unusually large fraction of gapless excitations well below T c that implicates spin-singlet, odd-frequency pairing symmetry.

Solvable 3D Kondo Lattice Exhibiting Pair Density Wave, Odd-Frequency Pairing, and Order Fractionalization

The Kondo lattice model plays a key role in our understanding of quantum materials, but a lack of small parameters has posed a long-standing problem. We present a 3 dimensional S= 1 2 Kondo lattice model describing a spin liquid within an electron sea. Strong correlations in the spin liquid are treated exactly, enabling a controlled analytical approach. Like a Peierls or BCS phase, a logarithmically divergent susceptibility leads to an instability into a new phase at arbitrarily small Kondo coupling. Our solution captures a plethora of emergent phenomena, including odd-frequency pairing, pair density wave formation and order fractionalization. The ground-state state is a pair density wave with a fractionalized charge e, S = 1/2 order parameter, formed between electrons and Majorana fermions.
