WA-Omic_LA.1.0 - Quantitative Lipidomics, Metabolomics, and Sequencing (16S/ITS) Publication Data DOI Package

Corresponding Data Publication: "Rapid remodeling of the soil lipidome in response to a drying-rewetting event." This study reveals specific changes in lipids and metabolites that are indicative of stress adaptation, substrate use, and cellular recovery during soil drying and subsequent rewetting. Drought induced nutrient limitation was reflected in the lipidome and polar metabalome, both of which rapidly shifted (within hours) upon rewet. Reduced nutrient access in dry soil caused the replacement of glycerophospholipids with phosphorus-free lipids and impeded resource-expensive osmolyte accumulation. Elevated levels of ceramides and lipids with long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids, in dry soil suggests that lipids play an important role in fungal drought tolerance. Increasing abundance of bacterial glycerophospholipids and triacylglycerols with fatty acids typical of bacteria and polar metabolites suggest metabolic recovery in representative bacteria once the environmental conditions are conducive for growth. These results underscore the importance of the soil lipidome as a robust indicator of microbial community responses, especially at the short time scales of cell-environment reactions. Data package contents reported here are the first version and contain pre- and post-processed data acquisition and subsequent downstream analysis files using various data source instrument method techniques and Mass Spectroscopy (MS) EMSL capabilities. This publication data package DOI is a comprehensive high-throughput multi-omics data lifecycle collection containing processed data method metadata. Support files include additional data download “Read Me” file containing data descriptor information and data source application ontologies (see data dictionary). Reported data download contents are structured for compliance with project data sharing guidelines, community standards initiatives, and sponsor stakeholder policies supporting FAIR data principles. For increased data availability and interoperability, GC-MS/LC-MS mass spectrometry datasets (Thermo .raw ) were deposited at the MassIVE database repository under the related data accession MSV000086931 and can be accessed by using the API. Statistical data processing software, analysis tools, and data workflows are listed below corresponding to the host repository long-term location.

Challenges for monitoring and data analytics in a leadership public data repository

The availability and disposition of data has assumed increasing importance in large-scale computational science. Data repositories are evolving to meet new classes of requirements: compliance with government access guidelines, support for reproducibility of experimental results, and long-term availability of data products. The Constellation public data repository at the Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility faces these issues while being situated in one of the most productive data centers in the world. While monitoring and operational data analysis are ingrained in the operation of the OLCF’s large-scale high performance computing platforms, data repositories do not have this history of support. Problems faced by Constellation range from data size (over 7 petabytes in current holdings) to analytic complexity (detailed curation is both absolutely necessary for many data sets and absolutely impossible for humans to accomplish in any practical manner) to deployment environment (OLCF storage resources are oriented toward the needs of the compute platforms). In this paper we describe some of the challenges for collecting monitoring and analytic data from a leadership public data repository. We also discuss various strategies we are pursuing in order to address these challenges, from manual data collection to plans for introducing machine learning-based curatorial techniques.

Solar-to-Grid Public Data File for Utility-scale (UPV) and Distributed Photovoltaics (DPV) Generation, Capacity Credit, and Value

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) estimates hourly project-level generation data for utility-scale solar projects and hourly county-level generation data for residential and non-residential distributed photovoltaic (PV) systems in the seven organized wholesale markets and 10 additional Balancing Areas. To encourage its broader use, Berkeley Lab has made this data file public here at OEDI. The public project-level dataset is updated annually with data from the previous calendar year. For more information about the research project, including a technical report, briefing material, visualizations, and additional data, please visit the project homepage linked in this submission. A newer version of the data exists and can be found linked in the resources of this submission under "Solar-to-Grid Public Data File Updated 2021".

Tomographic galaxy clustering with the Subaru Hyper Suprime-Cam first year public data release

We analyze the clustering of galaxies in the first public data release of the HSC Subaru Strategic Program. Despite the relatively small footprints of the observed fields, the data are an excellent proxy for the deep photometric datasets that will be acquired by LSST, and are therefore an ideal test bed for the analysis methods being implemented by the LSST DESC. We select a magnitude limited sample with i<24.5 and analyze it in four redshift bins covering 0.15≲z≲1.5. We carry out a Fourier-space analysis of the two-point clustering of this sample, including all auto- and cross-correlations. We demonstrate the use of map-level deprojection methods to account for fluctuations in the galaxy number density caused by observational systematics. Through an HOD analysis, we place constraints on the characteristic halo masses of this sample, finding a good fit up to scales k max = 1Mpc –1 , including both auto- and cross-correlations. Our results show monotonically decreasing average halo masses, which can be interpreted in terms of the drop-out of red galaxies at high redshifts for a flux-limited sample. In terms of photometric redshift systematics, we show that additional care is needed in order to marginalize over uncertainties in the redshift distribution in galaxy clustering, and that these uncertainties can be constrained by including cross-correlations. We are able to make a ~3σ detection of lensing magnification in the HSC data. Our results are stable to variations in σ 8 and Ω c and we find constraints that agree well with measurements from Planck and low-redshift probes. Lastly, we use our pipeline to study the clustering of galaxies as a function of limiting flux, and provide a simple fitting function for the linear galaxy bias for magnitude limited samples as a function of limiting magnitude and redshift.

A Public Data Set of Auto-Generated Geotagged PV Site Equipment, Generated via Deep Learning

In this research, we present a data set over 100 photovoltaic (PV) sites in TX, which have been automatically geotagged via a fully autonomous deep learning (DL) pipeline. Specifically, locations of inverters, tracker/fixed tilt rows, batteries, and substations are labeled algorithmically. To ensure high data quality, all systems have been reviewed manually and any deep learning errors have been corrected. This public data set, as well as the open-sourced pipeline used to generate it, is valuable for site planning, modelling, and insurance purposes. Given time and resources, we hope to extend the data set to additional states/regions in the US.

Public data from three US states provide new insights into well integrity

Significance There are over 900,000 active oil and gas wells in the United States. Estimates of the percentage of these wells that leak during their lifetime have been limited by data availability. We mined publicly available records from state regulatory databases and synthesized the results of various well testing methods into a uniform dataset that describes the integrity of 105,031 wells. Our analysis of the dataset provides insight into regional well leakage frequencies in three US states (Colorado, New Mexico, and Pennsylvania), spatial and temporal leakage trends among vertical and directional wells, and the characteristics of leaked fluids. Our findings demonstrate the value of statewide well testing programs and highlight the challenges of interpreting disparate interjurisdictional well testing data.
