A Human-Machine Shared Control Framework Considering Time-Varying Driver Characteristics

The uncertainties of driver's behavior seriously affect road safety and bring significant challenges to the human-machine cooperative control. Here, this paper proposes a human-machine shared control framework considering driver's time-varying characteristics to improve the co-driving cooperation performance. Firstly, the driving intention is introduced to describe the driver's involvement level through using Gauss-Bernoulli restricted Boltzmann machine method. And the index of driving ability is proposed to evaluate driver skills based on path-tracking errors. Then, a novel human-machine authority allocation strategy is designed by combining the two driving behavior characteristics and used to construct the driver-vehicle interaction system. Subsequently, a T-S fuzzy robust state-feedback shared control system is developed considering time-varying driver behaviors and vehicle states. Finally, the proposed shared steering system is validated by the driver-in-the-loop test bench. The results show that the proposed control method can reduce human-machine conflicts and has obvious superiority in improving performance of driving comfort, path tracking, and vehicle stability for the co-driving vehicles.

Switching State-Feedback LPV Control with Uncertain Scheduling Parameters

This paper presents a new method to design Robust Switching State-Feedback Gain-Scheduling (RSSFGS) controllers for Linear Parameter Varying (LPV) systems with uncertain scheduling parameters. The domain of scheduling parameters are divided into several overlapped subregions to undergo hysteresis switching among a family of simultaneously designed LPV controllers over the corresponding subregion with the guaranteed H-infinity performance. The synthesis conditions are given in terms of Parameterized Linear Matrix Inequalities that guarantee both stability and performance at each subregion and associated switching surfaces. The switching stability is ensured by descent parameter-dependent Lyapunov function on switching surfaces. By solving the optimization problem, RSSFGS controller can be obtained for each subregion. A numerical example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach over the non-switching controllers.

Multivariable flight control synthesis and literal robustness analysis for an aeroelastic vehicle

An integrated flight/aeroelastic control law is developed analytically for a hypothetical large supersonic transport aircraft in which the first aeroelastic mode frequency of the fuselage (6 rad/sec) is near the short-period mode (2 rad/sec). The approach employed is based on a linear-quadratic-regulator (LQR) formulation (yielding model-following state-feedback gains), followed by asymptotic loop-transfer recovery of LQR robustness (to produce an output-feedback control law). The derivation is outlined, and numerical results comparing the performance and multivariate stability robustness of the present controller with those of a classical controller are presented in graphs. The two controllers are shown to have similar characteristics, even with respect to the sources of limitations on robustness.

Robust stabilization, robust performance, and disturbance attenuation for uncertain linear systems

This paper presents a linear quadratic regulator approach to the robust stabilization, robust performance, and disturbance attenuation of uncertain linear systems. The state-feedback designed systems provide both the robust stability with optimal performance and the disturbance attenuation with H-infinity-norm bounds. The proposed approach can be applied to matched and/or mismatched uncertain linear systems. For a matched uncertain linear system, it is shown that the disturbance attenuation robust-stabilizing controllers with or without optimal performance always exist and can be easily determined without searching; whereas, for a mismatched uncertain linear system, the introduced tuning parameters greatly enhance the flexibility of finding the disturbance-attenuation robust-stabilizing controllers.

Dual Representations and H ∞ -Optimal Control of Partial Differential Equations

We consider H ∞ -optimal state-feedback control of the class of linear Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) which admit a Partial Integral Equation (PIE) representation. While linear matrix inequalities are commonly used for optimal control of Ordinary Differential Equations (ODEs), the absence of a universal state-space representation and suitable dual form prevents such methods from being applied to optimal control of PDEs. Specifically, for ODEs, the controller synthesis problem is defined in state-space, and duality is used to resolve the bilinearity of that synthesis problem. Recently, the PIE representation was proposed as a universal state-space representation for linear PDE systems. In this paper, we show that any PDE system represented by a PIE admits a dual PIE with identical stability and I/O properties. This result allows us to reformulate the stabilizing and optimal state-feedback control problems as convex optimization over the cone of positive Partial Integral (PI) operators. Operator inversion formulae then allow us to construct feedback gains for the original PDE system. The results are verified through application to several canonical problems in optimal control of PDEs and indicate the resulting bounds on H ∞ norm are not conservative.
