Photoelectron spectroscopy with entangled photons; enhanced spectrotemporal resolution

In this theoretical study, we show how photoelectron signals generated by time-energy entangled photon pairs can monitor ultrafast excited state dynamics of molecules with high joint spectral and temporal resolutions, not limited by the Fourier uncertainty of classical light. This technique scales linearly, rather than quadratically, with the pump intensity, allowing the study of fragile biological samples with low photon fluxes. Since the spectral resolution is achieved by electron detection and the temporal resolution by a variable phase delay, this technique does not require scanning the pump frequency and the entanglement times, which significantly simplifies the experimental setup, making it feasible with current instrumentation. Application is made to the photodissociation dynamics of pyrrole calculated by exact nonadiabatic wave packet simulations in a reduced two nuclear coordinate space. This study demonstrates the unique advantages of ultrafast quantum light spectroscopy.

Biphoton spectral quantum interference for information processing and delay metrology

Broadband time-energy entangled photons feature strong temporal correlations with potential for precision delay metrology, but previous work has leveraged only time-of-flight information ultimately limited by the detection jitter and resolution of the time-tagging electronics. Firstly, our work pushes the entanglement-based nonlocal delay metrology from the conventional time-of-flight measurement to a new direction—two-photon interferometry with subpicosecond sensitivity independent of detection resolution. Next, we show the selective sensitivity of frequency-bin encoded Bell states to the sum and difference of biphoton-delays by using a novel reconfigurable setup capable of switching between the Bell states by successively employing single and dual spectral-line pumps.

Confirming X-ray Parametric Down Conversion by Time-Energy Correlation

We present measurements of X-ray Parametric Down Conversion at the Advanced Photon Source synchrotron facility. Using an incoming pump beam at 22 keV, we observe the simultaneous, elastic emission of down-converted photon pairs generated in a diamond crystal. The pairs are detected using high count rate silicon drift detectors with low noise. Production by down-conversion is confirmed by measuring time-energy correlations in the detector signal, where photon pairs within an energy window ranging from 10 to 12 keV are only observed at short time differences. By systematically varying the crystal misalignment and detector positions, we obtain results that are consistent with the constant total of the down-converted signal. Our maximum rate of observed pairs was 130 /hour, corresponding to a conversion efficiency for the down-conversion process of 5.3±0.5×10 -13 .
