Long baseline interferometric observations of HD 195019: no K dwarf companion detected

Radial velocity measurements of the G3V/IV star HD 195019 revealed the presence of an orbiting companion with m sin(i) = 3.5 Jupiter masses and a period of 18 days. Here we present new visability measurements obtained at the Palomar Testbed Interferometer which rule out any companion in an orbit consistent with the spectroscopic data and having more than 1% of the flux of the primary star in the near-infrared K band.

Multi-mission operations with the Interferometry Science Center

In this paper, we will introduce the functional elements in the Keck Interferometer Science Operations System; describe the common SOS core elements that KI and the Space Interferometry Mission will share; and provide prospective users of these facilities an introduction to user support model that the Interferometry Science Center is implementing.

A preliminary visual orbit of BY Draconis

We report on the preliminary determination of the visual orbit of the double-lined spectroscopic binary system BY Draconis with data obtained by the Palomar Testbed Interferometer in 1999.

The Palomar Testbed Interferometer

The Palomar Testbed Interferometer (PTI) is a long-baseline infrared interferometer located at Palomar Observatory, California. It was built as a testbed for interferometric techniques applicable to the Keck Interferometer. First fringes were obtained in 1995 July. PTI implements a dual-star architecture, tracking two stars simultaneously for phase referencing and narrow-angle astrometry. The three fixed 40 cm apertures can be combined pairwise to provide baselines to 110 m. The interferometer actively tracks the white-light fringe using an array detector at 2.2 microns and active delay lines with a range of +/-38 m. Laser metrology of the delay lines allows for servo control, and laser metrology of the complete optical path enables narrow-angle astrometric measurements. The instrument is highly automated, using a multiprocessing computer system for instrument control and sequencing.

An Interferometric Search for Bright Companions to 51 Pegasi

We report on a near-infrared, long-baseline interferometric search for luminous companions to the star 51 Pegasi conducted with the Palomar Testbed Interferometer. Our data is completely consistent with a single-star hypothesis.

Palomar Testbed Interferometer

The Palomar Testbed Interferometer (PTI) is an infrared, phase-tracking interferometer in operation at Palomar Mountain since July 1995. It was funded by NASA for the purpose of developing techniques and methodologies for doing narrow-angle astrometry for the purpose of detecting extrasolar planets.

The Keck Interferometer

The Keck Interferometer is being developed by JPL and CARA as one of the ground-based components of NASA's Origins Program. The interferometer will combine the two 10-m Keck telescopes with four proposed 1.8-m outrigger telescopes located at the periphery of the Keck site on Mauna Kea.

Astrometric Observation of MACHO Gravitational Microlensing

This paper discusses the prospects for astrometric observation of MACHO gravitational microlensing events. We derive the expected astrometric observables for a simple microlensing event assuming a dark MACHO, and demonstrate that accurate astrometry can determine the lens mass, distance, and proper motion in a very general fashion.

Quantization Distortion in Block Transform-Compressed Data

The popular JPEG image compression standard is an example of a block transform-based compression scheme; the image is systematically subdivided into block that are individually transformed, quantized, and encoded. The compression is achieved by quantizing the transformed data, reducing the data entropy and thus facilitating efficient encoding. A generic block transform model is introduced.

A Posteriori Restoration of Block Transform-Compressed Data

The Galileo spacecraft will use lossy data compression for the transmission of its science imagery over the low-bandwidth communication system. The technique chosen for image compression is a block transform technique based on the Integer Cosine Transform, a derivative of the JPEG image compression standard. Considered here are two known a posteriori enhancement techniques, which are adapted.
