One-dimensional line radiative transfer.

Integrations over solid angle and frequency are performed in the expressions for the radiant heat flux and local energy loss of a line in a region of strong variations of the source function in one direction. Approximations are given for coefficients and kernels in the resulting forms which involve integrals over the physical coordinate.

Review of laser-solid interaction and its possibilities for space propulsion

Literature on laser-solid interaction is surveyed and the important regimes of this process are delineated. This information is used to discuss the possibility of a laser induced ablation thruster. It is concluded that such a thruster may be feasible if a sufficiently high intensity, high frequency laser beam is available and that further study of interaction is needed.

Dispersive waves in a seeded MHD generator.

The equations giving the response of a slightly ionized plasma with monatomic components to sinusoidal perturbations have been formulated. Included in the model equations were the electron Hall effect, electron thermal diffusion, radiation, and electron-atom rate processes. Plasma conditions were limited to those where viscous effects, the induced magnetic field, ion slip, and atom-atom inelastic processes can be neglected. Presented are results of numerical calculations for MHD generators with a working fluid of potassium seeded argon.
