In one aspect the present disclosure relates to a 3D printed signal control backbone apparatus. The apparatus may have a filament including a first material section and a plurality of second material sections. The first material section is bounded on opposing ends by the second material sections. The first material section is formed by an ink having a percolating network of a plurality of chiplets infused in a non-conductive polymer. The plurality of chiplets form electrically responsive elements imparting a predetermined logic function and which are responsive to a predetermined electrical signal. The second material sections are formed by an ink which is electrically conductive.
Stable, monodisperse sub-micron cerium particle suspensions were synthesized from a Ce IV precursor by homogeneous precipitation with hexamethylenetetramine and ammonium hydroxide.

Spatially-resolved analysis requires homogeneous reference materials (RMs) to make reliable quantitative measurements. Here we previously developed an electrophoretic deposition (EPD) method for fabrication of glassy microanalytical RMs with superior platinum-group element homogeneity **[1], and now include further dopants. For 39 trace elements, we analyzed dopant homogeneity in sintered silica (SiO 2 ) samples consolidated either mechanically by die-pressing (DP) or by EPD. A set of EPD and DP samples was made from each of two nanoparticle feedstocks produced by variations of the Stöber process **[2]. Spatially-resolved dopant distribution was characterized in all samples by laser-ablation inductively-coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS). In both sample sets, homogeneity of most trace elements was substantially improved by EPD relative to their DP counterpart.

The incorporation of micro and nanoscale constituents in a hierarchical order improves mechanical properties of bulk structures while inducing controlled deformation. However, these features have seldomly been applied to the fabrication of cermet materials due to manufacturing constraints. Here, overcoming previous limitations, boron carbide cermets with embedded aluminum lattices were produced using a combination of additive manufacturing and gelcasting techniques. Kelvin cell and octet truss scaffolds were printed, cast and burned out so the negative volume could be infiltrated with metal to form an architected cermet. Computed microtomography scans reveal full aluminum infiltration of the volume with high fidelity to the target architecture. Equibiaxial flexural tests showed localized crack propagation in lattice-reinforced cermets and that samples with imbedded architecture required nearly double the energy for complete failure. Overall, the addition of an internal aluminum lattice limits abrupt fracture of the composite and provides a method for tuning its mechanical response with architected ratios of metal to ceramic.
A deformable mirror has a mirror front face and a mirror back exposed surface. An elastomeric support structure is connected to the mirror back exposed surface. The elastomeric support structure includes a multitude of microchannels wherein the microchannels have a closed end located proximate the mirror back exposed surface and an open end located away from the mirror back exposed surface. A fluid pressure source is connected to the open end of the microchannels. A power source and control system are connected to the fluid pressure source.
Fabrication of functional polymer-based particles by crosslinking UV-curable polymer drops in mid-air and collecting crosslinked particles in a solid container, a liquid suspension, or an air flow. The particles can contain different phases in the form or layered structures that contain one to multiple cores, or structures that are blended with dissolved or emulsified smaller domains. A curing system produces ultraviolet rays that are directed onto the particles in the jet stream from one side. A reflector positioned on other side of the jet stream reflects the ultraviolet rays back onto the particles in the jet stream.
