An extended Reed Solomon decoder design

It has previously been shown that the Reed-Solomon (RS) codes can correct errors beyond the Singleton and Rieger Bounds with an arbitrarily small probability of a miscorrect. That is, an (n,k) RS code can correct more than (n-k)/2 errors. An implementation of such an RS decoder is presented in this paper. An existing RS decoder, the AHA4010, is utilized in this work. This decoder is especially useful for errors which are patterned with a long burst plus some random errors.

A VLSI implementation for synthetic aperture radar image processing

A simple physical model for the Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) is presented. This model explains the one dimensional and two dimensional nature of the received SAR signal in the range and azimuth directions. A time domain correlator, its algorithm, and features are explained. The correlator is ideally suited for VLSI implementation. A real time SAR architecture using these correlators is proposed. In the proposed architecture, the received SAR data is processed using one dimensional correlators for determining the range while two dimensional correlators are used to determine the azimuth of a target. The architecture uses only three different types of custom VLSI chips and a small amount of memory.

Integrated CMOS RF amplifier

This paper reports an integrated 2.0 micron CMOS RF amplifier designed for amplification in the 420-450 MHz frequency band. Design techniques are shown for the test amplifier configuration. Problems of decreased amplifier bandwidth, gain element instability, and low Q values for the inductors were encountered. Techniques used to overcome these problems are discussed. Layouts of the various elements are described and a summary of the simulation results are included. Test circuits have been submitted to MOSIS for fabrication.
