NETL Electrical Conductivity Relaxation(ECR) Analysis Tool
This application was developed within the solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) work plan. It calculates the oxygen surface exchange coefficient (k) and oxygen diffusion coefficient (D) for an oxide sample using electrical conductivity relaxation (ECR) data. The tool also produces a heat map showing the associated uncertainty in fitting the ECR data for given pairs of k and D values, so the user can determine the most likely range of k and D values for the tested values. Multiple datasets for the same material can be plotted to decrease uncertainty. The tool can also simulate ECR curves for inputted k and D values and overlay the simulated curves with experimental data for comparison.
Identification of key oxidative intermediates and the function of chromium dopants in PKU-8: catalytic dehydrogenation of sec-alcohols with tert-butylhydroperoxide
Catalytic oxidation using green oxidants has played an important role in modern chemical engineering, however the in-situ generated active groups and the related catalytic mechanism need to be further understood. Combined with several measurements, such as isotopic tracers, molecular probes and cycle voltammetry, chromium ions were observed to undergo a Cr 3+ –Cr 2+ –Cr 3+ redox cycle. Simultaneously, t-BuOO* groups are generated in a large quantity and seem to function as the most critical active species to enhance the dehydrogenation of sec-alcohols when using TBHP as oxidant. DFT calculations give an energetically favorable pathway for TBHP activation, agreeing well with the obtained catalytic results. Here, a reaction scheme was finally proposed to interpret the probable mechanistic process.
Enhanced Performance of Dual Inverter with a Floating Capacitor for Motor Drive Applications
This paper studies a dual inverter supplied by a DC-link and a floating capacitor (FC), emerged as a promising inverter topology for motor drive applications. For this type of inverter, the voltage ratio between the DC-link and the FC can be actively controlled. This ratio design is crucial as it essentially defines both the DC-link voltage utilization and the inverter output quality. Several voltage ratios have previously been discussed to enhance the dual inverter performance, but only one aspect, either the voltage utilization or the output quality, is investigated. As a result, although one performance aspect can be improved, the other aspect has been adversely affected. In this work, a comparative study considering both aspects is carried out for all the possible voltage ratios. Based on this analysis, the optimal ratios for different inverter modulation indices are identified. This is followed by proposing a ratio selection strategy to double the voltage utilization without degrading the output quality. Furthermore, this strategy enables an electric drive to work at a higher maximum speed without flux weakening for a given DC-link voltage. The claimed advantages have been proved by experimental tests on an open-end windings induction motor drive.

Deconvolution of Water-Splitting on the Triple-Conducting Ruddlesden–Popper-Phase Anode for Protonic Ceramic Electrolysis Cells
Triple-conducting materials have been proved to improve the performance of popular protonic ceramic electrolysis cells. However, partially because of the complexity of the water splitting reaction involving three charge carriers, that is, oxygen (O 2– ), proton (H + ), and electron (e – ), the triple-conducting reaction mechanism was not clear, and the reaction conducting pathways have seldom been addressed. In this study, the triple conducting Ruddlesden–Popper phase Pr 1.75 Ba 0.25 NiO 4+δ as an anode on the BaCe 0.7 Zr 0.1 Y 0.1 Yb 0.1 O 3–δ electrolyte was fabricated and its electroresponses were characterized by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy with various atmospheres and temperatures. The impedance spectra are deconvoluted by means of the distribution of the relaxation time method. The surface exchange rate and chemical diffusivity of H + and O 2– are characterized by electrical conductivity relaxation. The physical locations of electrochemical processes are also identified by atomic layer deposition with a surface inhibitor. A microkinetics model is proposed toward conductivities, triple-conducting pathways, reactant dependency, surface exchange and bulk diffusion capabilities, and other relevant properties. Lastly, the rate-limiting steps and suggestions for further improvement of electrode performance are presented.
Unprecedented lattice volume expansion on doping stereochemically active Pb 2+ into uniaxially strained structure of CaBa 1- x Pb x Zn 2 Ga 2 O 7
Lone pair cations like Pb 2+ are extensively utilized to modify and tune physical properties, such as nonlinear optical property and ferroelectricity, of some specific structures owing to their preference to adopt a local distorted coordination environment. Here we report that the incorporation of Pb 2+ into the polar “114”-type structure of CaBaZn 2 Ga 2 O 7 leads to an unexpected cell volume expansion of CaBa 1- x Pb x Zn 2 Ga 2 O 7 (0 ≤ x ≤ 1), which is a unique structural phenomenon in solid state chemistry. Structure refinements against neutron diffraction and total scattering data and theoretical calculations demonstrate that the unusual evolution of the unit cell for CaBa 1- x Pb x Zn 2 Ga 2 O 7 is due to the combination of the high stereochemical activity of Pb 2+ with the extremely strained [Zn 2 Ga 2 O 7 ] 4- framework along the c -axis. The unprecedented cell volume expansion of the CaBa 1- x Pb x Zn 2 Ga 2 O 7 solid solution in fact is a macroscopic performance of the release of uniaxial strain along c -axis when Ba 2+ is replaced with smaller Pb 2+ .
Exact solution of the A{sub 2}{sup (2)} model with non-diagonal boundary reflections
The exact solution of the A{sub 2}{sup (2)} model (or the Izergin–Korepin model) with non-diagonal boundary reflections of the type I is studied by using the off-diagonal Bethe ansatz method. The complete operator product identities of the transfer matrices are obtained with the help of fusion. Based on them and the asymptotic behaviors as well as the values at special points, the inhomogeneous T−Q relations of the system are constructed. The method and the results in this paper can be generalized to the high rank A{sub n}{sup (2)} case directly.
