FeN 4 Sites Embedded into Carbon Nanofiber Integrated with Electrochemically Exfoliated Graphene for Oxygen Evolution in Acidic Medium

Abstract Development of inexpensive and efficient oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalysts in acidic environment is very challenging, but it is important for practical proton exchange membrane water electrolyzers. A molecular iron–nitrogen coordinated carbon nanofiber is developed, which is supported on an electrochemically exfoliated graphene (FeN 4 /NF/EG) electrocatalyst through carbonizing the precursor composed of iron ions absorbed on polyaniline‐electrodeposited EG. Benefitting from the unique 3D structure, the FeN 4 /NF/EG hybrid exhibits a low overpotential of ≈294 mV at 10 mA cm −2 for the OER in acidic electrolyte, which is much lower than that of commercial Ir/C catalysts (320 mV) as well as all previously reported acid transitional metal‐derived OER electrocatalysts. X‐ray absorption spectroscopy coupled with a designed poisoning experiment reveals that the molecular FeN 4 species are identified as active centers for the OER in acid. The first‐principles‐based calculations verify that the FeN 4 –doped carbon structure is capable of reducing the potential barriers and boosting the electrocatalytic OER activity in acid.

Phase Modulation of (1T‐2H)‐MoSe2/TiC‐C Shell/Core Arrays via Nitrogen Doping for Highly Efficient Hydrogen Evolution Reaction

Abstract Tailoring molybdenum selenide electrocatalysts with tunable phase and morphology is of great importance for advancement of hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). In this work, phase‐ and morphology‐modulated N‐doped MoSe 2 /TiC‐C shell/core arrays through a facile hydrothermal and postannealing treatment strategy are reported. Highly conductive TiC‐C nanorod arrays serve as the backbone for MoSe 2 nanosheets to form high‐quality MoSe 2 /TiC‐C shell/core arrays. Impressively, continuous phase modulation of MoSe 2 is realized on the MoSe 2 /TiC‐C arrays. Except for the pure 1T‐MoSe 2 and 2H‐MoSe 2 , mixed (1T‐2H)‐MoSe 2 nanosheets are achieved in the N‐MoSe 2 by N doping and demonstrated by spherical aberration electron microscope. Plausible mechanism of phase transformation and different doping sites of N atom are proposed via theoretical calculation. The much smaller energy barrier, longer HSe bond length, and diminished bandgap endow N‐MoSe 2 /TiC‐C arrays with substantially superior HER performance compared to 1T and 2H phase counterparts. Impressively, the designed N‐MoSe 2 /TiC‐C arrays exhibit a low overpotential of 137 mV at a large current density of 100 mA cm −2 , and a small Tafel slope of 32 mV dec −1 . Our results pave the way to unravel the enhancement mechanism of HER on 2D transition metal dichalcogenides by N doping.

SrZrO 3 Formation at the Interlayer/Electrolyte Interface during (La 1-x Sr x ) 1-δ Co 1-y Fe y O 3 Cathode Sintering

This work probes the formation of SrZrO 3 at the SDC/YSZ interface (Sm doped ceria, SDC; Y stabilized zirconia, YSZ) during (La 1-x Sr x ) 1-δ Co1 -y Fe y O 3 (LSCF) cathode sintering. SEM/EDS and grazing incidence X-ray diffraction results of annealed LSCF and YSZ samples reveal that even without physical contact between LSCF and YSZ, SrZrO 3 was formed on the surface of YSZ, preferentially at the grain boundaries. It was suspected that the SrZrO 3 formation is due to the Sr-containing gas species diffused through the pores of the SDC layer and reacted with the YSZ electrolyte. Computational thermodynamics was adopted to predict the gas species formed in air during sintering by using the La-Sr-Co-Fe-O-H thermodynamic database. Sr(OH) 2 is identified as the dominant Sr-containing gas species under the experimental conditions. In addition, it was found that A-site deficiency in LSCF could effectively suppress the SrZrO 3 formation while a dense and pore-free SDC interlayer is required to totally block the SrZrO 3 formation. As a result, cell performance was significantly improved for a cell with a dense SDC interlayer fabricated by pulsed laser deposition, due to elimination of SrZrO 3 formation and therefore reduced interfacial resistance.

System and method for object localization

A computer-assisted method for localizing a rack, including sensing an image of the rack, detecting line segments in the sensed image, recognizing a candidate arrangement of line segments in the sensed image indicative of a predetermined feature of the rack, generating a matrix of correspondence between the candidate arrangement of line segments and an expected position and orientation of the predetermined feature of the rack, and estimating a position and orientation of the rack based on the matrix of correspondence.
