Abstract

An overview of the physical principals of imaging spectrometry for detailed characterization of remote objects and of gas vapors is given. The terms Multi-spectral, Hyperspectral, and Ultra-spectral are defined within the framework of applications and instrument system design approaches.

Proposed framework for applying squeezed light to multi-photon absorption plasma diagnostics

We propose a quantum-enhanced plasma diagnostic based on squeezed states of light. Squeezed light can exhibit super-Poissonian photon statistics, leading to enhanced multiphoton absorption cross-sections compared to classical light. This effect enables improved sensitivity for two-photon excitation of high-energy atomic transitions such as ground-state excitation, and results in increased absorbed power and fluorescence in a plasma. We consider two methods of generating squeezed states and evaluate their advantages and limitations in the context of plasma absorption diagnostics. By comparing with and extending previous theoretical work, we predict an enhancement of the absorption signal by up to seven orders of magnitude at low intensities (10 1 W/m 2 ), with diminishing enhancement persisting up to high intensities (10 10 W/m 2 ). These results suggest that squeezed-light sources offer a viable pathway toward quantum-enhanced plasma diagnostics.

In-Situ Luminescence Imaging of Perovskite Solar Cells Demonstrates Increasing Spatial Nonuniformity Upon Light-Soaking Degradation

In this work we investigate degradation rates of triplecation mixed-halide perovskite p-i-n solar cells. We present an accelerated stress testing procedure using periodic blue light-soaking at elevated temperatures until devices reach ~80% of their initial efficiency. We track light-induced degradation via in-situ: photoluminescence (PL), current-voltage (I-V) curves, and transient photovoltage. Devices underwent 165 hours of light bias at 65degrees C. Results suggest that spatial uniformity in PL intensity decreases as device degradation increases. This investigation lays the groundwork to address the current gap in understanding the interplay between device performance and the evolution of macroscopic features in perovskite solar cells. Thus, we believe spatial characterization techniques will play a crucial role in the commercialization of perovskite solar cells.

DAVINCI: Deep Atmosphere Venus Investigation of Noble gases, Chemistry, and Imaging

DAVINCI is one of five Discovery-class missions selected by NASA in October 2015 for Phase A studies. Launching in November 2021 and arriving at Venus in June of 2023, DAVINCI would be the first U.S. entry probe to target Venus atmosphere in 45 years. DAVINCI is designed to study the chemical and isotopic composition of a complete cross-section of Venus atmosphere at a level of detail that has not been possible on earlier missions and to image the surface at optical wavelengths and process-relevant scales.
