SPADES (Scalable Parallel Discrete Events Simulation) [SWR-24-99]

SPADES (Solver for PArallel Discrete Event Simulation) is an open-source parallel discrete event simulation (PDES) package built on the AMReX library. Targeted at solving discrete event systems in parallel, this software package aims to be performance portable and scalable on heterogeneous computing architectures, e.g., graphic processing units (GPU). SPADES implements optimistic synchronization with rollback through an implementation of the Time Warp algorithm. An alternative conservative synchronization approach is also implemented using the Lower Bound on Incoming Time Stamp. In our implementation, logical processes are represented as cells in a grid and event messages are represented as particles. SPADES supports various parallel decomposition strategies, including the use of the Message Passing Interface (MPI) and OpenMP threading. All major GPU architectures (e.g., Intel, AMD, NVIDIA) are supported through the use of performance portability functionalities implemented in AMReX. The SPADES software is released in NREL Software Record SWR-24-99 “SPADES (Scalable Parallel Discrete Events Simulation)”.

Pulse: An Outlier Sensitive Downsampling Algorithm For Timeseries Data

Pulse is a downsampling algorithm for timeseries data. Frequently datasets become so large that visualization tools and web browsers cannot effectively render graphics due to memory constraints. Downsampling algorithms are commonly applied to minimize the quantity of data required to visualize important features or trends in the data, but some datasets are composed by distinct enough features and trends that most existing downsampling algorithms fail to preserve them. Pule was developed to downsample timeseries data for galvanostatic stack test data at the Idaho National Laboratory. These datasets were composed by approximately 4 million records, most of them being extremely uniform. However, during relatively brief time periods when the stack test changes state, for example when the test article is powered on, or a load is added, the data produce sparse asymptotes. No existing downsampling algorithm was capable of preserving the sparse asymptotes in electrolysis stack test data. Instead, we develop a downsampling algorithm that preserves important outliers in data, and otherwise aggressively downsamples uniform data. The algorithm has applications in other domains like seismology, in the measurement of earthquakes, or astronomy, in the measurement of quasars or transit photometry.

Coreii - Scout

COREII Scout employs React, Vite, TypeScript, Tailwind, and Daisy UI for its graphical user interface (GUI), offering both dark and light modes. The code is modular, with components and reusable wrappers to enhance efficiency. The primary goal of COREII Scout is to aid analysts in collecting and analyzing various sources related to cyber attacks, utilizing models to automate the report writing process. It uses Named Entity Recognition (NER), a type of Natural Language Processing (NLP), to extract key entities from each source. Analysts review and classify these entities using the COREII Attack Chain Estimator (ACE), adding their comments. Ultimately, a Large Language Model (LLM) generates a detailed report with user guidance. This setup ensures a streamlined and effective approach to cyber attack analysis and reporting.

CDL2PLC translator v0.1.0

The CDL-PLC translator aims at translating control sequences for building energy systems from the CDL CXF format to the PLCopen XML format. The CDL CXF developed at LBL within the OpenBuildingControl project, and now being standardized via ASHRAE Standard 231P, enables expressing control sequences developed in the simulation environment Modelica in a JSON format. The PLCopen XML is an existing exchange format standardized in IEC 61131-10 for Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) following the IEC 61131 standard as one target system of CDL among others. The translation from the CDL CXF to the PLCopen XML contributes to a seamless workflow from the model-based development of control sequences in simulation environments, which is not building practice today, and their digital implementation on building controllers, which replaces graphical and textual documents used for this purpose today. The translator is at a prototypical stage and enables, as a proof of concept, the translation of very simple control sequences composed of 4 selected function blocks out of 137 function blocks defined in CDL. The translation includes the connection of inputs and outputs of function blocks and the expression of a control function in CDL to the equivalent code in IEC 61131-3.

Cyote Insights

CyOTE Insights leverages React, Vite, Typescript, Tailwind, and Daisy UI for the Graphical User Interface. It was designed in a particular style with a dark mode and a light mode. All code is broken down into components and reusable wrapper components for efficiency. All data is stored in Deep Lynx as a central data repository using an ontology based schema. The application serves as a main endpoint for the data in the COREII and CyOTE programs. The main purpose of the application is to display historical attack data in the Operational Technology space. At the time of this writing, it supports 27 historical attack reports compiled from OSINT sources. All of the data is publicly available, but what this application offers is the ability to see many years worth of publications in a detailed dashboard. It will also support future reports that are written using the other applications in the COREII program.

WFSUITE: A PYTHON SOFTWARE SUITE FOR X-RAY WAVEFRONT SENDING AND AT-WAVELENGTH METROLOGY

SF-26-025 WFSuite is a graphical and command-line toolkit for coded-mask-based X-ray wavefront sensing and phase reconstruction at synchrotron beamlines. It integrates analysis tools for both relative and absolute speckle-based measurements. In the relative metrology module, WFSuite implements Wavelet-transform-based X-ray Speckle Tracking (WXST) and Wavelet-transform-based Speckle Vector Tracking (WSVT) methods to retrieve differential phase and wavefront distortions by comparing speckle patterns recorded with and without the test sample. In the absolute phase module, WFSuite uses coded-mask speckle patterns and replaces the measured reference with a numerically simulated one, enablingsingle-shot wavefront reconstruction using either WXST or a neural-network-based method (SPINNet).

Lightfall v0.0.1

Lightfall is a desktop application for synchrotron beamline instrument control, data acquisition, and live analysis at the Advanced Light Source (ALS). Built on Python and Qt, it provides a native graphical interface for operating beamline hardware, configuring and executing experimental scans, and visualizing results in real time. Key features include direct integration with EPICS control systems, a built-in electronic logbook, remote beamline access over secure tunnels, and an interprocess communication (IPC) architecture that coordinates with external analysis applications via ZMQ and EPICS process variables. This IPC approach allows Lightfall to orchestrate specialized analysis tools—including GPU-accelerated streaming correlators—without embedding them, avoiding the dependency conflicts common in monolithic scientific software platforms. Compared to prior approaches such as Xi-CAM's plugin-based architecture, Lightfall's design cleanly separates instrument control from domain-specific analysis, enabling feedback-driven acquisition where live analysis results can adjust scan parameters during an experiment. Its native Qt interface provides responsive performance for real-time data visualization that web-based alternatives struggle to match. Lightfall is designed for use by beamline scientists and staff operating synchrotron instruments at national user facilities.
