Dynamic Weather Routes Architecture Overview, presents the high level software architecture of DWR, based on the CTAS software framework and the Direct-To automation tool. The document also covers external and internal data flows, required dataset, changes to the Direct-To software for DWR, collection of software statistics, and the code structure.
Presentation for FAA sponsored meeting to discuss time-based metering trial planning. This presentation describes the Dynamic Routes for Arrivals in Weather (DRAW) concept and the associated trial planning functionality.
Each year weather-related airline delays result in hundreds of millions of dollars in additional fuel burn, maintenance, and lost revenue, not to mention passenger inconvenience. The current approaches for aircraft route planning in the presence of adverse weather still mainly rely on deterministic methods. In contrast, this work aims to deal with the problem using a Partially Observable Markov Decision Processes (POMDPs) framework, which allows for reasoning over uncertainty (including uncertainty in weather evolution over time) and results in solutions that are more robust to disruptions. The POMDP-based decision support system is demonstrated on several scenarios involving convective weather cells and is benchmarked against a deterministic planning system with functionality similar to those currently in use or under development.
Presentation to National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA) describing the Dynamic Routes for Arrivals in Weather (DRAW) concept and technology of the ATD-3 (Air Traffic Management Technology Demonstration-3) program. This presentation is a part of a NASA-NATCA technical interchange meeting for ATD-3 at NATCA HQ in Washington DC.
Multistation random access satellite communication technique for use with surface systems to meet global needs - routing and economic aspects
Lightweight, portable, variable-speed routing skate is used on heavy metal subassemblies which are impractical to move to a stationary machine. The assembly, consisting of the housing with rollers, router, and driving mechanism with transmission, weighs about forty pounds. Both speed and depth of cut are adjustable.

Travel markets which would be served by high speed commercial transport aircraft and the ability of the airlines to schedule and route the aircraft in a way that would achieve good daily utilization and productivity are examined. The following areas are considered: (1) identification of the major long-haul city pairs that would most likely demand nonstop service; (2) selection of flight tracks observing alternative sonic boom restrictions; (3) estimation of flight times for all city pairs for the various sonic boom constraints; (4) impact of airport curfews on possible departure and arrival schedules; (5) projection of passenger traffic volumes on the selected city pairs; and (6) potential daily utilization and aircraft productivity.
CADAT multiport-in-two dimensions program (MP2D) is powerful placement and routing aid for processing double-ended cell equivalents of high-speed silicon-onsapphire (SOS) standard-cell family. Basic purpose of MP2D is to design high-density large-integrated (LSI) arrays.
The distribution of weather information throughout the Air Traffic Control System is discussed along with the development of meteorological radar, and the modifications to the Air Route Traffic Control Center radars for locating and determining the severity of storms' cells. The planned improvements in the availability of weather data to the control centers are listed.
Place, Route in 2-Dimensions is a standard cell automatic layout computer program for generating large scale integrated/metal oxide semiconductor arrays. The program was utilized successfully for a number of years in both government and private sectors but until now was undocumented. The compilation, loading, and execution of the program on a Sigma V CP-V operating system is described.
From flight and mockup drawings of Spacelab 2 (SL 2) experiments and hardware, shop ready mockup drawings were produced. Floor panels were the first items considered for fabrication. Cold plate and orthogrid mockups were designed and fabricated. Experiment and other hardware mockups were fabricated of aluminum or plywood, depending on size and configuration. Eighty-three cable routing bracket mockups were fabricated of aluminum and delivered for painting.
Medical studies were undertaken on the stress experience by the cockpit crew working the short routes in Europe and a special attempt was made to discover whether signs of a summation of stress due to flight work become visible during a circuit of several days. For this purpose the pulse and respiratory rates were determined for 22 crew members as an indication of the acute stress occurring during the flight and the amount of stress hormone in the urine as an indication of the extent of total stress in an extended study period.
