HSPICE modelling of a solar array circuit controlled by a fet switch

This paper presents a method of modeling a solar array circuit controlled by a hexfet switch on HSPICE. HSPICE models are developed for the solar array current voltage (IV) characteristic and the IRF150 hexfet. Computer simulations are made to verify rate of current change at the load. The equivalent LC circuit for the same current control is modeled to show savings in weight and power in choosing the fet switch over an LC circuit.

Transistor current and voltage limiting switch

Limiting circuit protects the main power supply of electronic modules and limits the current drawn by each module should a short circuit occur. It limits current within one mA when used with direct current of either polarity, or with pulse or ac power sources from direct current to 100 kHz.

Asymmetric Switching For A PWM H-Bridge Power Circuit

Only two of four switches interrupt substantial current. An asymmetric timing scheme improves design and operation of pulse-width-modulation (PWM) H-bridge switch-and-transformer circuit. Circuit part of dc-to-dc converter or dc-to-ac inverter; in either case, output current or voltage regulated by adjusting times of opening and closing of semiconductor switches 1 through 4 to adjust durations of current pulses in primary winding of transformer.

Real time pressure signal system for a rotary engine

A real-time IMEP signal which is a composite of those produced in any one chamber of a three-lobed rotary engine is developed by processing the signals of four transducers positioned in a Wankel engine housing such that the rotor overlaps two of the transducers for a brief period during each cycle. During the overlap period of any two transducers, their output is compared and sampled for 10 microseconds per 0.18 degree of rotation by a sampling switch and capacitive circuit. When the switch is closed, the instantaneous difference between the value of the transducer signals is provided while with the switch open the average difference is produced. This combined signal, along with the original signal of the second transducer, is fed through a multiplexer to a pressure output terminal. Timing circuits, controlled by a crank angle encoder on the engine, determine which compared transducer signals are applied to the output terminal and when, as well as the open and closed periods of the switches.

Q-switched laser prelase detection circuit

A compact electronic circuit was developed to detect prelasing in Q-swithed pulsed laser systems and once detected to shut down the laser before the next laser pulse occurs. The circuit is small, compact, and uses a minimum of components which makes it quite economical, thus readily lending itself to commercial applications. It can easily be incorporated into virtually any Q-switched laser system or reliability of a laser system by reducing a source of possible costly optical damage. The circuit operation and instrument requirements necessary to incorporate the circuit into a laser system are discussed.

Silicon device performance measurements to support temperature range enhancement

The results of the NPN bipolar transistor (BJT) (2N6023) breakdown voltage measurements were analyzed. Switching measurements were made on the NPN BJT, the insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) (TA9796) and the N-channel metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor (MOSFET) (RFH75N05E). Efforts were also made to build a H-bridge inverter. Also discussed are the plans that have been made to do life testing on the devices, to build an inductive switching test circuit and to build a dc/dc switched mode converter.

Thermal Management of Wide-Bandgap Semiconductor Amplifiers Used for Plasma Heating and Control

Princeton Fusion Systems (PFS) has designed, built, and tested a Load Switch printed circuit board (PCB) to demonstrate the capabilities of 2 kV silicon carbide (SiC) cascodes in development by Qorvo towards plasma heating and control applications. Initial tests have been conducted at low power (~100 W) for validation with thermal finite element analysis (FEA) modeling performed by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). Comparisons of experimental data with the thermal modeling results, along with considerations for operating in plasma systems, will be discussed.

Analysis of adaptive algorithms for an integrated communication network

Techniques were examined that trade communication bandwidth for decreased transmission delays. When the network is lightly used, these schemes attempt to use additional network resources to decrease communication delays. As the network utilization rises, the schemes degrade gracefully, still providing service but with minimal use of the network. Because the schemes use a combination of circuit and packet switching, they should respond to variations in the types and amounts of network traffic. Also, a combination of circuit and packet switching to support the widely varying traffic demands imposed on an integrated network was investigated. The packet switched component is best suited to bursty traffic where some delays in delivery are acceptable. The circuit switched component is reserved for traffic that must meet real time constraints. Selected packet routing algorithms that might be used in an integrated network were simulated. An integrated traffic places widely varying workload demands on a network. Adaptive algorithms were identified, ones that respond to both the transient and evolutionary changes that arise in integrated networks. A new algorithm was developed, hybrid weighted routing, that adapts to workload changes.
