Logical-function generator

Apparatus and technique for generating logical functions and circuits have been developed. They provide aid in designing and constructing hardware to generate logic circuits, by defining circuit connections required to generate these functions. With this method, it is possible quickly and automatically to design logic, while eliminating involved and time-consuming mathematical manipulations.

Advancements in NbTiN based circuits for Superconducting Digital Logic

Superconducting (SC) electronics have emerged as a promising platform for high-speed, energy-efficient computing and quantum information processing. This work, centered on NbTiN, presents recent advances in material science and fabrication methods leading to significant improvements in performance, scalability and vertical integration. We specifically report on fabrication and characterization of key components, including Josephson junctions (JJs), flux trapping structures and SC interconnects. Together, these efforts represent critical steps towards realizing practical, complex, dense and large-scale SC integrated circuits.

Automated ILA design for synchronous sequential circuits

An iterative logic array (ILA) architecture for synchronous sequential circuits is presented. This technique utilizes linear algebra to produce the design equations. The ILA realization of synchronous sequential logic can be fully automated with a computer program. A programmable design procedure is proposed to fullfill the design task and layout generation. A software algorithm in the C language has been developed and tested to generate 1 micron CMOS layouts using the Hewlett-Packard FUNGEN module generator shell.

Timing Sampler For Delay Measurements

Integrated circuit called timing sampler used to measure delays in complementary metal oxide/silicon logic gates. Circuit chip contains chains of inverters and metal traces having minimum parasitic delays (delay chains), circuits to compare pulse timings, and output multiplexer. Timing sampler enables delay measurements for both positive and negative logic-level transitions by use of variety of circuit geometries representing tentative practical designs.

New dynamic FET logic and serial memory circuits for VLSI GaAs technology

The complexity of GaAs field effect transistor (FET) very large scale integration (VLSI) circuits is limited by the maximum power dissipation while the uniformity of the device parameters determines the functional yield. In this work, digital GaAs FET circuits are presented that eliminate the DC power dissipation and reduce the area to 50% of that of the conventional static circuits. Its larger tolerance to device parameter variations results in higher functional yield.

Implementing Exclusive-OR Logic

Two integrated circuits, BCD-to-decimal decoder and four-input NAND gate, form basic four, input XOR circuit. Multiple-input exclusive-OR logic is implemented by combining several basic elements. 16-input XOR gate is assembled from five NAND gates and five decoders. Same principle extended to handle more inputs.

Complementary-Logic Fault Detector

Circuit for checking two-line complementary-logic bits for single faults used as building block for self-checking memory interface for Hammingcoded data. Intended for such applications as fault-tolerant computing, data handling, and data transmission. Circuit performs exclusive-OR function. Many such circuits combined produce complete memory interface with both detection and correction abilities.

Ferrite logic reliability study

Development and use of digital circuits called all-magnetic logic are reported. In these circuits the magnetic elements and their windings comprise the active circuit devices in the logic portion of a system. The ferrite logic device belongs to the all-magnetic class of logic circuits. The FLO device is novel in that it makes use of a dual or bimaterial ferrite composition in one physical ceramic body. This bimaterial feature, coupled with its potential for relatively high speed operation, makes it attractive for high reliability applications. (Maximum speed of operation approximately 50 kHz.)

Event Recorder Scans 2,048 Channels

Up to 16 input signals feed each of up to 128 input circuit cards. Single input circuit card contains optical isolators with input-diode lamping, RC filters, Schmitt-trigger input buffers, and 16-to-1 multiplexer. Input circuit cards feed logic, memory, and input/output circuits, which are standard, off-the-shelf devices. Instrument records sequence and time of events and could be useful in monitoring operation of manufacturing machinery and furnishing information useful in diagnosis of machinery malfunctions.
