2022 Kauai Ground Transportation Survey

# 2022 Kauai Ground Transportation Survey The 2022 Kauai Ground Transportation Survey was designed to improve understanding of the transportation preferences of residents and visitors of the Hawaiian island of Kauai. For residents of Kauai, the survey focused on mode-choice decisions for commute, leisure, and shopping activities and whether they would consider using alternative modes instead of driving if such options were available. For visitors, the survey focused on whether they would consider alternatives to rental cars if such options were available. Ultimately, survey results will inform the development of sustainable transportation strategies for the island. ## Data Collection Agency NREL and the Kauai Office of Economic Development conducted the study as part of the U.S. Department of Energy's Energy Transitions Initiative Partnership Project. ## Survey Methodology The survey was conducted July—October 2022. Respondents were recruited via direct email invitation, a press release on the Kauai County website and Facebook page, and posters at community outreach events. ## Survey Records, Data, and Documentation Survey records include 1,437 participants.

OpenCSP Step-by-Step: Getting Started Guide for Windows (V.1.0)

This document provides a step-by-step tutorial on how to set up OpenCSP for both users and developers. It is meant to support novice users and does not require software engineering experience. It is a detailed extension of the OpenCSP getting started on-line documentation, found here: https://opencsp.readthedocs.io/en/main/contributing.html#getting-started. For an overview of OpenCSP overall, see the OpenCSP website: https://opencsp.sandia.gov. For details on OpenCSP components and algorithm, see the references.

Scintillator Library

This website provides measured scintillation properties of many inorganic and organic materials and citations to published papers in which the original measurements were reported. It is intended for two main uses: a web-accessible reference to useful scintillation detector materials and properties; an aid in developing fundamental theories or empirical relations between basic material properties and scintillation performance. To this end, both strong and weak scintillators have been included as well as those where sensitive measurements have not detected any scintillation emissions.

Enhancing Data Quality Monitoring at CMS with Interactive Visualization Tools and Automated Reference Run Selection

Current data quality monitoring (DQM) tools at CMS offer granularity limited to per-run analysis. Consequently, issues manifesting at the per-lumisection level can go unnoticed or, even if detectable, often lead to the classification of the whole run as bad, resulting in unnecessary data loss. Additionally, shifters have to evaluate a large set of monitoring elements during their long shifts, increasing the probability of human errors or overlooked problems. In this contribution, we present ongoing work on the development of tools that will provide shifters with an accessible, granularity-enhanced view of DQM data through interactive and dynamic visualizations. Furthermore, we introduce a reference run selection tool currently under development, which will automate the selection based on data-taking conditions and will offer a curated set of training data for machine learning models that will be used for the partial automation of the offline data certification process. These endeavors will be integrated into the DIALS website, enabling enhancements in data certification accuracy and improving the accessibility of DQM at CMS.

AI in Science Communication

Generative AI has brought innovations across multiple fields, offering great tools for enhanced communication and efficiency. This project focused on developing a custom AI chatbot using OpenAI's Chat GPT (GPT-4o) to support the Fermilab communications team. An analysis identified Chat GPT as the optimal choice, leading to the adoption of its team version and the implementation of a real-time JSON schema for website scanning. Four distinct personas were created to tailor responses to specific audiences, and Fermilab's published content was uploaded to ensure tone consistency. The training involved iterative prompt trials, resulting in a responsive and effective communication assistant. Initial evaluations indicate that the custom GPT shows promise.

Road Lidar Dataset for the TxDOT Austin District

This is a road lidar data collection for developing road elevation models and road inundation mapping methodologies, a joint work between ORNL and The University of Texas at Austin. This dataset is generated as part of the flood transportation infrastructure, partly funded by the NOAA CIROH project. ORNL is a project partner for high-performance computing-empowered flood inundation mapping methodology R&D. The dataset is computed using a GPU-accelerated lidar data processing workflow developed at ORNL. The lidar data source is from TxGIO, the state lidar data collection site. The output dataset is in two formats: laz and copc. It is organized by TxDOT's maintenance sections, covering the Austin District. Data size: 3.86 billion road lidar points, 1.67% of the entire lidar data input Projection: EPSG:32614 (WGS84/UTM zone 14N) Website: https://web.corral.tacc.utexas.edu/nfiedata/road3d/austin_district/AustinMaintenanceSections_H_epsg6343_V_epsg5703/ LICENSE FOR USE -- MAPS AND DATA DISCLAIMER This resource is shared under the Creative Commons Attribution CC BY, http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ MAPS AND DATA DISCLAIMER The Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) shall not be held liable for improper or incorrect use of the data described or information contained on this map or associated series of maps. Comparison of RESRAD-ONSITE and PRG/DCC Calculators and Application to Navy Environmental Media

The purpose of this project is to develop an improved Navy-wide approach for estimating risk and calculating cleanup goals for radiologically impacted environmental media (e.g., soils). This comparative analysis focused on the new features added (or improved) to the PRG/DCC Calculators since the 2015 comparison study (Yu et al. 2015a). RESRAD-ONSITE code Version 7.2 and the PRG/DCC Calculators available on the USEPA website between January and June of 2024 were used.

Infrastructure improvements in the National Reactor Innovation Center Virtual Test Bed

The National Reactor Innovation Center’s (NRIC) mission is to support deployment of novel reactor concepts. This is achieved by providing physical and virtual spaces for building and testing various components, systems, and complete pilot plants. The Virtual Test Bed (VTB) represents the virtual counterpart to the physical test bed. The VTB is being developed in collaboration with the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Nuclear Energy Advanced Modeling and Simulation (NEAMS) program. The mission of the VTB is to accelerate the deployment and licensing of advanced reactors by leveraging state-of-the-art modeling and simulation (M&S) tools developed by the DOE NEAMS program. This is accomplished via three primary means: (1) openly hosting simulations that showcase analysis capabilities, (2) continuously testing the models hosted against code updates to avoid deprecation, and (3) filling key M&S gaps that are relevant for the physical NRIC test beds. The VTB repository consists of two sub-entities: • A documentation website detailing the models: https://mooseframework.inl.gov/virtual_test_bed • A GitHub repository that hosts the corresponding files: https://github.com/idaholab/virtual_test_bed. This paper presents the infrastructure added to the VTB in the last two fiscal years. Additional information about the VTB can be found in various publications [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8].

These references also include additional background information on the various NEAMS codes showcased in the VTB (which is omitted here for brevity). This paper primarily provides a status update of the most recent additions to the repository.
