Single-event transient testing of low dropout PNP series linear voltage regulators

As demand for high-speed, on-board, digital-processing integrated circuits on spacecraft increases (field-programmable gate arrays and digital signal processors in particular), the need for the next generation point-of-load (POL) regulator becomes a prominent design issue. Shrinking process nodes have resulted in core rails dropping to values close to 1.0 V, drastically reducing margin to standard switching converters or regulators that power digital ICs. The goal of this task is to perform SET characterization of several commercial POL converters, and provide a discussion of the impact of these results to state-of-the-art digital processing IC through laser and heavy ion testing

Angle Dependence of Focused X-Ray-Induced Single Event Transients in an Epitaxial Silicon Diode

Focused X-Ray single event transient (SET) experiments are performed at small angles on an epitaxial silicon diode at two reverse bias conditions. For both biases, the collected charge and peak current results follow the cosine law, while the transient fall time remains independent of incident angle. This demonstrates that only the amount of charge being generated is affected by angle and not the fundamental device response.

This demonstrates that only the amount of charge being generated is affected by angle and not the fundamental device response for these relatively large devices.

Single-Event Effect Testing of the Broadcom ACPL-785E Optocoupler

The purpose of this testing was to examine the potential for destructive single event effects (SEE) in Broadcom’s ACPL-785E optocoupler in support of a NASA GSFC flight program. SEE testing was conducted NASA Space Radiation Laboratory (NSRL) at Brookhaven National Laboratory where devices with unmodified packaging were irradiated with high energy ions that have sufficient range to pass through the packaging of the device.

Single-Event Effects Test Report Texas Instruments, OPA842 Low-Noise Operational Amplifier

Testing was done to characterize the Texas Instruments Operational Amplifiers OPA842 single event effects (SEE) response. The primary SEE concerns for this device are single event latchup (SEL) and single event transients (SETs). Testing focused on determining susceptibility to SEL and characterizing the SET response. Testing occurred on November 11, 2022.
