Equivalency Factors and Mixed Isotope Subcritical Limits in H-Canyon [Slides]

Accurate references and documentation are of upmost importance, especially with the current workforce makeup. Tribal knowledge is likely to be lost with turnover. Using a questioning attitude is a great way to find gaps in existing analysis and “normal practices.” Most of the references reviewed are from the 1970’s, with the most recent authored in 1994. Many of these references have been revised and/or superseded in the years since. Though safe, many of the values are likely overconservative, as improvements with modeling and additional critical experiments have been performed in the years since. It would be prudent to reevaluate, clarify, and simplify the values used in H-Canyon.

RF Sources for Electron Accelerators With a focus on high-duty-factor, low-to-moderate energy architectures

A charged particle, such as an electron or a proton, is accelerated through its interaction with either a static (DC) or time-varying (RF) electric field. The magnitude of the accelerating field, or gradient, is typically given in units of volts per meter; in charged-particle accelerators, fields are usually expressed as kV/m or MV/m. The energy of the accelerated particle is usually expressed in terms of electron volts, or eV. An electron starting at rest at ground potential, and accelerated to an electrode with a potential of 1 kV, will have an energy of 1 keV.

Tough Break: Many Factors Make Glass Breakage More Likely

We have seen cases of glass in PV modules breaking differently, and more often, than it did five years ago. There have been many changes to PV module design and materials in that time. But there is probably no single change that is responsible for the problem. Here we summarize the current thinking on PV glass breakage in utility-scale power plants. We share insights from multiple still-running projects at NREL.

Measuring & Verifying Monopole Gauge Factors Into 50 Ohms

Student poster for HEART 2025. Abstract: Experimental data from multiple methods of measurement as compared to simulation and model data show that free-field antenna characterization methods can be appropriately applied to short, surface mount monopole antennas used in small cavities for shielding effectiveness testing.
