EIT in resonator chains: similarities and differences with atomic media

We theoretically study a parallel configuration of two interacting whispering gallery mode optical resonators and show a narrow-band modal structure as a basis for a widely tunable delay line. For the optimum coupling configuration the system can possess an unusually narrow spectral feature with a much narrower bandwidth than the loaded bandwidth of each individual resonator.

Planar diode multiplier chains for THz spectroscopy

High-resolution laboratory spectroscopy is utilized as a diagnostic tool to determine noise and harmonic content of balanced [9]-[11] and unbalanced [12]-[14] multiplier designs. Balanced multiplier designs suppress unintended harmonics more than -20dB. Much smaller values were measured on unbalanced multipliers.

High-Order Tunable Filters Based on a Chain of Coupled Crystalline Whispering Gallery-Mode Resonators

We demonstrate experimentally a tunable third-order optical filter fabricated from the three voltage-controlled lithium niobate whispering gallery-mode resonators. The filter operates at 1550 nm with 30-MHz bandwidth and can be electrooptically tuned by 12 GHz in the linear regime with approximately 80-MHz/V tuning rate. With this filter, we have demonstrated 6-dB fiber-to-fiber insertion loss and 30-ns tuning speed, limited by the resonator buildup time.

Psychrophilic Biomass Producers in the Trophic Chain of the Microbial Community of Lake Untersee, Antarctica

The study of photosynthetic microorganisms from the Lake Untersee samples showed dispersed distribution of phototrophs within ~80 m water column. Lake Untersee represents a unique ecosystem that experienced complete isolation: sealed by the Anuchin Glacier for many millennia. Consequently, its biocenosis has evolved over a significant period of time without exchange or external interaction with species from other environments. The major producers of organic matter in Lake Untersee are represented by phototrophic and chemolithotrophic microorganisms. This is the traditional trophic scheme for lacustrine ecosystems on Earth. Among the phototrophs, diatoms were not found, which differentiates this lake from other known ecosystems. The dominant species among phototrophs was Chlamydomonas sp. with typical morphostructure: green chloroplasts, bright red round spot, and two polar flagella near the opening. As expected, the physiology of studied phototrophs was limited by low temperature, which defined them as obligate psychrophilic microorganisms. By the quantity estimation of methanogenesis in this lake, the litho-autotrophic production of organic matter is competitive with phototrophic production. However, pure cultures of methanogens have not yet been obtained. We discuss the primary producers of organic matter and the participation of our novel psychrophilic homoacetogen into the litho-autotrophic link of biomass production in Lake Untersee.

NASA Goddard Space Flight Center Supply Chain Management Program

This slide presentation reviews the working of the Supplier Assessment Program at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. The program supports many GSFC projects to ensure suppliers are aware of and are following the contractual requirements, to provide an independent assessment of the suppliers' processes, and provide suppliers' safety and mission assurance organizations information to make the changes within their organization.

Prototype and Metrics for Data Processing Chain Components of IPM

This presentation lays out the evolution of the Intelligent Payload Module (IPM) vision given that the HyspIRI mission has been delayed. It shows that there has been a focus on airborne vehcile and unmanned aerial systems to further develop the IPM functionality. This of course does not preclude use of the IPM for space missions but provides alternate paths to continue the concept of improved onboard processing for low latency users of science data products.

Virtex-5 CN Package Daisy Chain Evaluation Test Report

The board-level temperature cycling reliability of Xilinx Virtex-5 (V5) CN package was investigated. V5s were temperature cycled under two conditions, 0 to +100 C (0/100) and -55 to +100 C (-55/100). During the 0/100 test, no part out of 8 parts failed up to 6586 cycles. During the -55/100 test, one part out of 8 parts failed at 1236 cycle, and there were no additional failures up to 1705 cycles. The failure mode of the part that failed at 1236 cycles indicated that most likely the failure was not a solder fatigue failure, and therefore no obvious solder fatigue failure was observed throughout the tests.
