FET Junction Temperature Monitoring Using Novel On-Chip Solution

A novel junction temperature monitoring sensor is proposed and experimentally demonstrated for application in MOS-gate power devices. The sensor is created using the polycide gate electrode layer of the devices to create a temperature-sensitive resistor without any additional fabrication steps. The resistor is located on the field oxide with one end grounded at the device reference terminal to isolate it from the device current and voltage transients. It allows in-situ monitoring of the device junction temperature during active circuit operation. The technology has been implemented to monitor the junction temperature of Silicon Carbide Junction Barrier Schottky Field Effect Transistors (SiC JBSFETs) with the bi-directional FET (BiDFET).

Collection and Analysis of Telemetry for CyOTE Heuristics (CATCH)

The Collection and Analysis of Telemetry for CyOTE Heuristics (CATCH) provides a framework for augmenting an organization’s existing security controls with CyOTE developed analyses. CATCH collects, stores, analyzes, and creates STIX reports on anomalous data. CATCH connects the CyOTE analysis framework together with the MITRE ICS ATT&CK® patterns and highlights areas of improvement and further research. This tool is designed to enhance an organization’s security controls by providing a structured approach to collecting, storing, analyzing, and reporting anomalous data.

The Army's Use of the Advanced Communications Technology Satellite

Tactical operations require military commanders to be mobile and have a high level of independence in their actions. Communications capabilities providing intelligence and command orders in these tactical situations have been limited to simple voice communications or low-rate narrow bandwidth communications because of the need for immediate reliable connectivity. The Advanced Communications Technology Satellite (ACTS) has brought an improved communications tool to the tactical commander giving the ability to gain access to a global communications system using high data rates and wide bandwidths. The Army has successfully tested this new capability of bandwidth-on-demand and high data rates for commanders in real-world conditions during Operation UPHOLD DEMOCRACY in Haiti during the fall and winter of 1994. This paper examines ACTS use by field commanders and details the success of the ACTS system in support of a wide variety of field condition command functions.

Air Traffic Management Technology Demonstration (ATD-1) - Concept to Operations

In order to enable arrival management concepts and solutions in a NextGen environment, ground-based sequencing and scheduling functions have been developed to support metering operations in the National Airspace System. These sequencing and scheduling algorithms as well as tools are designed to aid air traffic controllers in developing an overall arrival strategy. The research presented provides an outline of the challenge of bringing time based scheduling to the terminal environment and the steps that were taken to bring the technology from concept to testing in an operational environment, and finally acquisition by the FAA. ATM Technology Demonstration-1 (ATD-1), is a set of technologies that provides an efficient solution for managing arrival aircraft beginning from just prior to top-of-descent and continuing down to the runway. The ATD-1 suite of technologies has been tested separately, and each has demonstrated benefits in throughput, delay, and fuel-efficiency. Together, the integration of terminal arrival tools allow arrival aircraft to safely fly closer together on more fuel-efficient routes to increase capacity, and reduce delay, fuel burn, noise, and greenhouse gas emissions.

Preliminary Investigation of Impact of Technological Impairment on Trajectory-Based Operations

The Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen) incorporates collaborative air traffic management and Trajectory-Based Operations (TBO) in order to significantly increase the capacity, efficiency, and predictability of operations in the National Airspace System (NAS), without decreasing safety. This is enabled by airspace users and service providers sharing knowledge about operations that allows prediction of the complete 4D flight trajectory with as little uncertainty as possible. Additionally, new software and hardware technology is critical to reaching NextGen goals, especially with regard to TBO. What if the technologies that are critical for TBO were to be impaired or fail completely? Should there be a malfunction of a piece of the technology, it must be ensured that the whole system does not break down completely or suffer severe impairment. Instead, operations need to be maintained proportionally to the problem and safety needs to be ensured (graceful degradation). This paper proposes a systematic framework to investigate the vulnerability of TBO to technology disruption, and determine the impact of technological impairment on TBO. Two representative technologies are chosen for detailed investigation and the impact of their impairment on the degradation of TBO is illustrated using a weather-related scenario. XXXX There are several possible directions of future work. We believe it is desirable to develop methods to quantitatively assess the impact of technological disruption on TBO and to have the simulation tools to validate the impact. The availability of prognostics and health management methods could be leveraged to predict technological failure/disruption, thus predicting how TBO will be a ected, and possibly pro-actively mitigating the impact. It is important to develop large-scale scenarios where the e ect of technological impairment is prominent, and identify methods to quantitatively assess the extent of TBO degradation. An important goal of such an investigation is the development of failure-resistant resilient trajectory-based oper- ations. Resilience14, 15 is the property of a system to \bounce back" and resume at least a signi cant portion of its functionalities after degradation due to technological impairment(s). A systems resilience includes properties such as \bu ering capacity" (quantifying disruptions the system can absorb or adapt to without a fundamental breakdown in performance or in the systems structure), \ exibility" (ability to restructure itself in response to external changes or pressures), "margin" (how closely the system is currently operating rela- tive to one or another kind of performance boundary), \tolerance" (whether the system gracefully degrades as stress/pressure increase, or collapses quickly when pressure exceeds adaptive capacity), etc. Future work needs to focus on quantifying and improving the resilience of TBO, and identifying resilient design solutions for aviation.

Practical considerations in designing the engine cycle

When it is required to define the cycle parameters and calculate the performance of a real engine, there are numerous practical constraints that need to be taken into account. These fall into two main categories: the limitations of available component technologies, and the operational considerations that are dependent on aircraft application. The lecture discusses the main technology limiters and indicates how they are incorporated into the cycle definition process. Operational factors include the extent of the intended flight envelope and range of critical flight conditions for which performance must be assured, and the balance to be struck between minimising fuel consumption, maximising installed power and constraining costs of ownership. Taking these technology and operational influences into account, the basic cycle characteristics and approach to cycle choice are examined for three main classes of aircraft: subsonic transports, military combat aircraft and helicopters.

5G Service Value Chain and Network Slicing Framework using Ecosystem Modeling, Agile Delivery, and User-Story Automation

The 5G technology allows telecommunication operators to provide services beyond data broadband for consumers, employing tailored use-cases for enterprise and vertical markets. As a result, there is an increasing need for a collaborative service development through a de-centralized value-chain, along with new business models and shorter time-to-market. In this paper, a novel, use-case driven framework for a modular 5G service design and delivery is proposed. The framework implements agile and as-a-service principles to provide 5G use-case customers access not only to service usage, but also to design and operation. The framework integrates with the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) specifications by mapping network-slicing procedures to the designed ecosystem lifecycle operations. The framework allows for any-technology deployment, utilizing the available foundations for domain-specific automation. A structured collaboration between a 5G operator and a use-case user allows for the customization and improvement of the targeted use-case, where 5G network assets are updated with customer’s vertical components through programmable user-stories. Laboratory testing of a 5G network-slicing for a private-telephony and merchandise-tracking service is performed to validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach for real-world applications.
