User Manual - HydraGNN v5.0: Distributed Implementation of Multi-Tasking Graph Neural Networks

This document serves as the user manual for HydraGNN v5.0, a scalable graph neural network (GNN) architecture for simultaneous prediction of multiple target properties using multi-task learning (MTL). This version of HydraGNN has been developed primarily to support the development, training, and deployment of predictive graph-based deep learning (DL) models for atomistic materials modeling. HydraGNN is templated over 13 message-passing policies, including invariant models (GIN, PNA, PNAPlus, GAT, MFC, CGCNN, SAGE, SchNet, DimeNet) and equivariant models (EGNN, PNAEq, PAINN, MACE), and supports distributed training via distributed data parallelism (DDP), DeepSpeed, and Fully Sharded Data Parallelism (FSDP) on leadership-class supercomputers. Although HydraGNN can be applied to problems beyond atomistic materials modeling, its current use is confined to homogeneous graphs. Additional capabilities include machine-learned interatomic potentials with energy-conserving forces, General, Powerful, and Scalable Graph Transformer (GraphGPS) global attention, periodic boundary conditions, hyperparameter optimization, mixed-precision training, and uncertainty quantification.

User Manual for the Thermal Hydraulic Code SE2RCT

SE2-ANL is a modified version of SUPERENERGY-2 which interfaces the power distribution in the ANL maintained physics codes for the user. SE2RCT is a special version of SE2-ANL developed for specific use on models of the Experimental Breeder Reactor-II (EBR-II). SE2RCT fulfills a specific role in the calculated results as part of the Fuels Irradiation and Physics Database (FIPD) and is built to connect with the Physics and Analysis DataBase (PADB) for metallic fuel research and development in advanced sodium-cooled fast reactors (SFRs) created for EBR-II. SE2RCT is primarily a thermal analysis code that interfaces with the RCT based pin power details instead of the built-in pin power dehomogenization strategy in SE2-ANL. Beyond the thermal hydraulic calculation, the SE2RCT code provides detailed axial distributions of the RCT calculated results. SE2RCT also calculates the the axial distribution of pin wise DPA for the cladding materials which is part of the FIPD calculated results. This report serves as the user manual for SE2RCT and thus eliminates the QA gap of missing documentation on the SE2RCT software. All of the features and limitations of SE2RCT are documented in this report. The input and output specifications of SE2RCT are discussed in detail, and some unique features of SE2RCT, e.g. accurate pin power and temperature results for problems with non-uniform composition within an assembly, are also demonstrated and tested.

CalderaCast User Manual Version 1.0

CalderaCast is a user-friendly web-based tool for electrical-load forecast, providing stakeholders with a fully customizable decision-support framework that estimates the likely power draw from a possible future electric-vehicle (EV) charging station at a given location on a given day along an alternative fuel corridor (AFC). These EV charging profiles are accurately modeled in CalderaCast using the Caldera software framework developed by Idaho National Laboratories (INL), reflecting the realistic charging levels observed in actual charge events. This tool was developed as part of the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program, which is quickly generating substantial interest from would-be charging station operators (CSO), large and small electric utilities, and state transportation planners, some of whom had not seriously considered EV charging previously. All these entities—with or without background in EV infrastructure—must estimate the electricity load that a proposed charging station will generate. This load forecast is critically important for a utility to properly assess the capacity of their distribution network to support the proposed station or properly size grid upgrades for potential load growth due to future EV adoption, vehicle technology improvements, or station growth. This document describes each aspect of the CalderaCast tool and provides guidance to users who are interested in utilizing the tool for their work.

EVI-LOCATE User Manual

One of the longest stages in the deployment of electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) is the initial planning of the infrastructure itself. Engineers and fleet experts from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) have supported dozens of charging infrastructure site plans over the past couple decades, including the generation of site schematics, determinations of electric capacity, and estimates for likely costs. As the market for electric vehicles (EVs) has matured, this approach should no longer require a time and personnel intensive process. In order to shorten the time taken to develop site plans and cost estimates, NREL developed a tool that fleet managers, facility managers, electricians, EVSE installers, and members of the public can use to develop initial schematics and ballpark pricing for charging station installations. The Electric Vehicle Infrastructure - Locally Optimized Charger Assessment Tool and Estimator (EVI-LOCATE) provides a structured and consistent way for users to enter information about their planned EVSE project in a relatively simple web-based format. EVI-LOCATE then calculates electrical equipment capacity, wiring runs, and project costs. It produces a site diagram optimized around surface characteristics with differential trenching costs for softscape such as grass compared to hardscape such as asphalt that can be adjusted by users in the tool. It also stores the resulting site plans and costs in a dashboard for access at a later date, including plan revisions if necessary. This document guides users through the EVI-LOCATE screens and associated questions. It contains tip text boxes throughout on how best to interface with the tool and find additional information or context. The appendices contain the assumptions and calculations underpinning the tool. Much of the information for EVI-LOCATE was gathered through industry engagements with EVSE installers, invoices from completed EVSE installations, Gordian's RS Means construction data, and the General Services Administration blanket purchase agreement for EVSE. For a visual tutorial of the tool, users can watch EVI-LOCATE Step-by-Step Video. The tool itself is available at https://evi-locate.nrel.gov.

Blending Pipeline Analysis Tool for Hydrogen (BlendPATH) Documentation and User Manual

The Blending Pipeline Analysis Tool for Hydrogen (BlendPATH) is a flexible, open-source Python tool designed to provide users with case-by-case analysis capabilities to identify the necessary modifications to repurpose existing natural gas transmission pipeline networks to transport hydrogen as a blend of a user-specified volume fraction of hydrogen or as a pure stream and to estimate the associated capital and operating expenditures resulting from those modifications. This tool is intended to be applied during the initial screening stage of a prospective project when pipeline developers compile transmission pipeline technical documentation and history but prior to performing detailed pipeline inspections. Performing analysis with BlendPATH during this initial screening stage can provide the user with an understanding of promising opportunities and probable economic outcomes of repurposing their pipeline network for hydrogen before proceeding with detailed pipeline materials testing and pipeline inspections. BlendPATH consists of multiple modules to simulate, assess, and modify existing natural gas transmission pipeline network designs to be compatible with hydrogen as a blend or pure stream. The tool employs an open-source gas network hydraulic model to simulate existing, user-specified transmission pipeline networks, and it applies ASME B31.12 to assess the pipe segments within these networks for compatibility with hydrogen and to modify the networks to achieve compatibility where the existing infrastructure is inadequate. Users can specify ASME B31.12 design options for pipeline assessment and can select from multiple methods for pipeline modification. This report details the functionalities of BlendPATH Version 2.0.2 and demonstrates an example of applying BlendPATH to a case study. Potential and intended users of this framework include natural gas pipeline developers and operators and researchers at both public and private institutions. BlendPATH is publicly available at https://github.com/NREL/BlendPATH.
