Historic Source Inspection Records

To create true counts of number of containers, each container can be identified by a combination of the purchase order, unique part number and type of inspection. The column TestEventName and any columns derived from TestEventName should not be used in the instance of presource inspection because the vendor may mete out testing over multiple months, meaning that a container would be counted twice if a single test was completed in one month and another test in a different month. By counting on this combination of values, we are able to drop row entries that signify multiple tests completed on a single container. Inspection type must be used because each container will be tested by the vendor and re-tested by the LANL container engineering team. Recall that the vendor will complete action limit tests for the full set of containers during pre-source inspection but during source inspection, action limit tests are completed for only a random subset. However, LANL SMEs will complete a manual inspection for the full set of containers.

A New Class of SiC Power MOSFETs with Record-Low Resistance

Silicon carbide (SiC) power transistors are used in the main traction inverter of electric vehicles (EVs). Tesla began installing SiC power MOSFETs in 2017, and has now produced 4.8 million EVs containing over 169 million SiC power MOSFETs. Looking ahead, the worldwide EV market is projected to exceed 50 million vehicles per year by 2030 (Reuters, Oct. 25, 2022). This will create a demand for over two billion SiC power MOSFETs per year. Our program aims to double the efficiency of today's commercial power MOSFETs. This will cut the number of MOSFETs per EV in half, reducing cost, simplifying assembly, decreasing weight, and increasing vehicle reliability through reduced parts count. Our approach is to apply innovative design and advanced processing to increase the density of current-controlling channels in SiC power MOSFET. We have developed two new MOSFET devices, each of which increases the channel density by a factor of six over today's best commercial MOSFETs. This required implementing new fabrication processes, creating new device designs, and integrating the processing steps and device designs into a manufacturable technology. In this project we have developed two innovative devices: (i) a novel three-dimensional structure, the "tri-gate MOSFET," and (ii) a deeply-scaled, fully self-aligned trench MOSFET, the "IMOSFET". Both products were experimentally demonstrated during this project and meet the program goals of increased efficiency relative to the current state-of-the art commercial products. In the process we have generated significant IP, with two US patents issued and three applications pending. We have also published three journal articles and given reports on this technology at seven international conferences. The success of this program has led to significant follow-on funding from industry. In May 2023 Purdue University signed a five-year R&D contract with GlobalFoundries to transfer our novel technology to commercial production. With headquarters in Malta, NY, Global Foundries is one of the largest pure-play silicon foundries in the world, with annual revenue of $\$$8.1B. Their SiC foundry will be built around the next-generation 200-mm diameter SiC wafers, which will double the number of die per wafer and reduce per-die production cost.

Next-generation perovskite photovoltaics: improving, stabilizing, and lead-sealing of record-setting laboratory solar cells towards commercialization

Summary: In the proposed program we plan to improve perovskite photovoltaic performance by developing (1) orientational control of 3D/2D perovskite heterostructures to simplify device architectures, thus improving device efficiencies and stability; (2) high-throughput optical measurements and real-time device simulations for device optimization; (3) robust, dual-pronged lead-sealing and oxygen/moisture/UV barrier films for long-term stability. Specifically, we seek to develop an in-depth understanding of the perovskite film formation, interface passivation, device stability, and environmentally friendly encapsulation, which together will lead to perovskite devices with PCE of over 28%, stability of T80 at 85/85 (85% humidity at 85 degrees C) for 10,000, expected to be equivalent to T90 of 100 hours), and architectures that would satisfy the U.S. EPA and RoHS limits of lead-leaching. The knowledge generated with this project will be applicable to tandem devices with wider-bandgap perovskites.

An Integrated ML/AI Framework for Digitizing, Structuring and Searching DOE U-TRU-Fuels Data with Gap Analysis of Non-DOE Records

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Advanced Fuels Campaign (AFC) is advancing transmutation fuel technologies to reduce long-lived radioactive waste by converting minor actinides into shorter-lived or stable elements through irradiation in sodium-cooled fast reactors. Key experiments such as AFC-1, AFC-2, FUels for the transmutation of Trans-URanium elements In phéniX (FUTURIX)-Fortes Teneurs en Actinides (FTA), and Experimental Breeder Reactor-II (EBR-II) X501 have provided fuel fabrication, irradiation, and performance data on various transuranic-bearing fuel forms. This report documents the creation of an artificial-intelligence assisted database, which has consolidated all DOE-owned data related to Transuranic (TRU)-bearing fuel experiments and stored across it across both the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) Nuclear Data Management and Analysis System and the INL high performance computing (HPC) infrastructure. A dedicated webpage, hosted on the INL HPC system, has been developed to support role-based access and data interaction. The database architecture allows researchers to navigate large, heterogeneous archives with far greater speed and accuracy than manual search and lays the foundation for future expansion into multimodal nuclear materials analysis environments. The database represents a major step towards a nationally integrated fuels database utilizing artificial intelligence tools.

Record of Decision: MEBT Energy Change

The LAMP Conceptual Design (LCD), as described in the LAMP Conceptual Design Report incorporates a radiofrequency quadrupole (RFQ) with an output beam energy of 3.0-MeV; the medium energy beam transport line (MEBT) transports beam from the end of the RFQ into the first LAMP drift tube linac (DTL) tank. The MEBT contains components, such as rebunchers and beam choppers, designed for the specific output energy of the RFQ, and the DTL tank is designed to accept this beam energy.

Record of Decision: LEBT Energy Change

The LAMP Conceptual Design (LCD), as described in the LAMP Conceptual Design Report incorporates multiple 100-keV low-energy beam transport (LEBT) lines between the ion sources and the radiofrequency quadrupole (RFQ). The LEBT lines transport H + and H - beams from their respective ion sources to the RFQ entrance, and provide the required manipulations (focusing, steering, chopping, etc.) to the ion beams to prepare them for injection into the RFQ and further acceleration.

Record of Decision: H - LEBT Design Modifications

The LAMP Conceptual Design (LCD) is described in the LAMP Conceptual Design Report. The proposed new configuration of the LAMP H - LEBT encompasses multiple changes to the LCD. The new configuration makes use of a single H - source to supply beam to all LANSCE user stations except IPF; this eliminates one of the H - sources in the LCD, and the associated pulsed merger magnet the use of two such sources required. The source current from the sole H - source is gated on a macropulse-by-macropulse basis using techniques demonstrated at SNS (Spallation Neutron Source), specifically, changes to the RF plasma drive power. A pulsed electrode system is used to match the beam into the LEBT transport line, variable on a macropulse-by-macropulse basis to match the source beam current.

Yield Estimates of three Historical Atmospheric Nuclear Explosions at Lop Nor, from Reduced Order Models of Regionally Recorded Rayleigh Waveforms and One Seismic Station: A Brief Communication

We use a reduced order model (ROM) for Rayleigh waveforms sourced by large atmospheric explosions along with data collected from a single seismic station (TLG) to estimate the yields of three atmospheric nuclear tests with order-megaton (MT) yields. These historical tests were conducted by China between 1973 and 1980 (CHIC 15, CHIC 16, and CHIC 26). We use our ROM to estimate yields of 2.34 MT (CHIC 15), 0.51 MT (CHIC 16), and 1.15 (CHIC 26) in the 20.5 s period band that are consistent with publicly accepted values of 3 MT (CHIC 15), 0.50 MT (CHIC 16), and 0.730 MT (CHIC 26).

Achievement in Beam Power Records for the NOvA Target System

We began updating the NOvA target system for 1-Mega Watt (1-MW) beam operation in 2017. Major changes include maintaining the quality of neutrino beams with reliable instrumentation, reducing instantaneous beam heating on the target, increasing cooling power to handle the high power beam, and controlling tritium water production rate. We successfully achieved a onehour beam power report of 1.018 MW in Summer 2024. This achievement marks an important milestone for Fermilab, demonstrating the capability of the accelerator complex to handle highintensity proton beams at a fast repetition rate. We are now prepared to proceed with a new accelerator upgrade plan, known as the Accelerator Complex Evolution - Main Injector Ramp and Targetry R&D (ACE-MIRT) to support future operates at beam power exceeding 2 MW for the Long Baseline Neutrino Facility (LBNF) and Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE). We present the improvement of the target system to exceed the beam power 1-MW.
