Sub-standard yield stress in a batch of 21-9-6 stainless steel (Nitronic 40) bars was observed while other batches passed requirements. This material requires enhanced property uniformity due to its application in critical components and therefore has tighter restrictions on alloying elements. Using tensile testing, this study investigates the distribution of yield and ductility across bar geometry for three lots of material and is corroborated alongside Vickers microhardness profiles.

this is a poster that covers a recent publication that was passed through IR - should look familiar to the DC.
This report documents the development and deployment of advanced algorithms and tools that enable high-throughput characterization for metal additive manufacturing (AM), with a particular focus on process parameter optimization and material/part qualification for nuclear applications. While the method ologies presented support diverse characterization techniques, the majority of the work is centered on AI-driven algorithms for X-ray computed tomography (XCT) to accelerate defect detection and materials analysis at scale.

10 minute talk on fundamental research of a type in academic literature
Technology has recently seen a drastic physical downsizing. Wearable and small devices with lower power demands have become the norm and continue to be more prominent in daily life. With modern devices growing smaller and requiring less electricity, a power source will always be needed. Contemporary batteries are the most common means to power small electronics. However, reliance on conventional batteries may prove insufficient due to the non renewable resources (Li, Ni, Co) required to power the growing number of individual devices each person may own. Additionally, the infrastructure required to harvest and recycle the sheer number of batteries produced presents a further logistic issue to be addressed. A promising alternative to batteries is the usage of triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs). TENGs are a class of energy harvesting devices that utilize triboelectric generation to convert mechanical/kinetic energy into electrical energy and have exhibited efficiencies up to 85 % at low frequencies. TENGs exhibit a high voltage but low current. Even with the high voltage, the low current output proves to be a significant factor preventing undoped TENGs from being commercially viable. This review will investigate factors that increase the total current produced by TENGs when nanoparticles are utilized in TENGs. Factors such as increasing porosity, surface area, surface charge density, charge storage, deep trap formation, and dielectric constant can be altered to affect the total current by impregnating nanoparticles into the polymer material will be explored.

The Hanford Site stores an estimated 56 million gallons of mixed radioactive and chemically hazardous waste in large underground tanks. In support of the Direct Feed Low-Activity Waste (DFLAW) program for expediting Hanford tank waste supernate treatment, laboratory-scale ion exchange processing using prototypic unit operations was conducted on AW-105 tank waste at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory Radiochemical Processing Laboratory. This report describes the batch contact testing for tanks AN-107 and AP-105 to help evaluate CST performance on tanks waste supernate after processing it in the ion exchange columns. Batch columns were performed with the wastes at six Na concentrations.
This report provides a deep dive into how the stability of energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) standards yielded insight into the shortfalls of using software to randomly select points for spectral acquisition when using heterogeneous standards. Some procedural recommendations are included which are meant to minimize the impact of anomalous reference standard spectra by detecting them before the standard is implemented into data processing.
