Proceedings on the Working Group on Extraterrestrial Resources - Fourth annual meeting

The Working Group on Extraterrestrial Resources is composed of people from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the U. S. Air Force, the U. S. Navy, Office of Engineers of the U. S. Army, U S. Geological Survey, the Department of Agriculture, and the Rand Corporation. It was organized for the following function: "To evaluate the feasibility and usefulness of the employment of extraterrestrial resources with the objective of reducing dependence of lunar and planetary exploration on terrestrial supplies; to advise cognizant agencies on requirements pertinent to these objectives, and to point out the implications affecting these goals. "

Third Annual Workshop on Space Operations Automation and Robotics (SOAR 1989)

Papers presented at the Third Annual Workshop on Space Operations Automation and Robotics (SOAR '89), hosted by the NASA Lyndon 8. Johnson Space Center at Houston, Texas, on July 25-27, 1989, are documented herein. During the three days, approximately 100 technical papers were presented by experts from NASA, the USAF, universities, and technical companies. Also held were panel discussions on Air Force/NASA AI Overview and Expert System Verification and Validation. Tutorial sessions included Neural Networks; Theory and Application of Back Propagation; Verification and Validation of Expert Systems/ Evaluation of Expert System Tools; and Technical Environment for Modular Architectures for Robotics in Space; and are not documented herein. Technical topics addressed included intelligent systems, robotics, human factors, and environment.

Vehicle Technologies Program: Energy Storage R&D (2008 Annual Progress Report)

One of the primary objectives of the Energy Storage effort is the development of durable and affordable advanced batteries (and ultracapacitors) for use in a full range of vehicle applications, from start/stop to full-power HEVs, EVs, and PHEVs. The battery technology development activity spans three areas: system development of full battery systems; benchmark testing of emerging technologies in order to remain abreast of the latest industry developments; and Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) to fund early-stage R&D for small businesses/entrepreneurs.

Fifth Annual Workshop on Space Operations Applications and Research (Soar 1991), Volume 1

More than 110 papers were presented at this Symposium, sponsored by the U.S. Air Force Phillips Laboratory, the University of Houston-Clear Lake, and NASA JSC. The technical areas covered were Intelligent Systems, Automation and Robotics, Human Factors and Life Sciences, and Environmental Interactions. The U.S. Air Force and NASA programmatic overviews and panel discussions were also held in each technical area. These proceedings, along with the comments and suggestions made by the panelists and keynote speakers, will be used in assessing the progress made in joint USAF/NASA projects and activities. Furthermore, future collaborative/joint programs will also be identified. The symposium proceedings includes papers covering various disciplines presented by experts from NASA, the Air Force, universities, and industry.

Environmental Performance Report 2025: Annual Site Environmental Report per the U.S. Department of Energy Order 231.1B Chg 1

The National Laboratory of the Rockies (NLR) Environmental Performance Report provides a description of the laboratory's environmental management activities in calendar year 2025, including information on environmental performance, environmental compliance activities and status, and environmental protection programs, highlights, and successes. The purpose of this report is to ensure that the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the public receive timely, accurate information about events that have positively affected or could adversely affect the health and safety of the public or workers, the environment, or the operations of DOE facilities. This report meets the DOE requirements of the Annual Site Environmental Report (ASER) and has been prepared in accordance with DOE Order 231.1B Chg 1, Environment, Safety and Health Reporting.

NASA Hybrid Thermally Efficient Core (HyTEC) Phase 2 Q3’GFY25 to Q2’GFY26 Unlimited Rights Annual Report for CLIN 1 and 2

The HyTEC Phase 2 Project focuses on the development and demonstration of high-power density, small engine core gas turbine engine technologies. The focus of HyTEC on these small engine core technologies will provide direct benefits to the next single-aisle class aircraft in terms of thermal efficiency, as well as integrate with other technologies, through increased hybridization, as they mature to provide substantial continuous fuel burn reductions during the aircraft lifecycle. These advances will strengthen the US position in the commercial aviation engine market and enable cost benefits in commercial aviation. In Government fiscal year 26 the HyTEC Project was closed and contract moved to the Subsonic Vehicle Technologies and Tools Project. GE Aerospace is executing two major work plans as part of the HyTEC Phase 2 contract. The first is Contract Line-Item Number (CLIN) 001 and its objective is to mature High Pressure Turbine (HPT) aerodynamics technology to TRL 5 through multiple rigs so that it may be incorporated into a complete TRL 6 evaluation and unlock learnings for the engine core demonstration as applicable. CLIN 002, the second work plan, is to design, procure and test a cost shared portion of technologies on the TRL6 Compact Core test vehicle. The compact core demonstrated through HyTEC Phase 2 along with the HPT rig TRL advancement directly matures the technologies being developed as part of the CFM RISE demonstrator program which is targeting a more than 20% fuel burn reduction at the engine level versus today’s state of the art. The RISE program’s objective is to advance both the novel Open Fan architecture, compact core technologies and advanced systems such as hybrid electric needed to achieve the desired fuel burn reduction to TRL6 ahead of a new product introduction in the single-aisle class aircraft in the 2030s timeframe.

The 1977 Goddard Space Flight Center Battery Workshop

The papers presented were derived from transcripts taken at the Tenth Annual Battery Workshop held at the Goddard Space Flight Center, November 15-17, 1977. The Workshop was attended by manufacturers, users, and government representatives interested in the latest results of testing, analysis, and development of the sealed nickel cadmium cell system. The purpose of the Workshop was to share flight and test experience, stimulate discussion on problem areas, and to review the latest technology improvements.

Application of Nuclear Technology to Art Identification Problems: First Annual Report

Throughout the centuries, as man has become increasingly affluent, his interest in antiquities and objects of art, and the price he has been willing to pay for them, has increased. Inevitably, one result has been to attract the unscrupulous to the production and sale of counterfeit paintings, sculptures, and other works of art. The skill of forgers varies but often is highly sophisticated. However, dealers, museum curators, and other experts have also become more skillful in the detection of forgeries. Scientific tools of increasing sensitivity and sophistication have gradually been applied to the examination of the materials of art and archaeology. Such tools frequently support and render more reliable the judgment of the experts. The quality of forgeries may improve further as their makers become acquainted with the new methods of detection and in turn learn to circumvent or confound the methods. Therefore, the development of still more advanced methods of examination has great utility in the art world. This is particularly true if the ultimate effect is to make circumvention of the methods of examination so costly that the economic incentives for producing forgeries may be substantially reduced, if not eliminated.

The 2001 NASA Aerospace Battery Workshop

This document contains the proceedings of the 34th annual NASA Aerospace Battery Workshop, hosted by the Marshall Space Flight Center, November 27-29, 2001. The workshop was attended by scientists and engineers from various agencies of the US Government, aerospace contractors, and battery manufacturers, as well as international participation in like kind. The subjects covered included nickel-hydrogen, nickel-cadmium, lithium-ion, and silver-zinc technologies.

A Review of Medical Results of Gemini 7 and Related Flights

On August 23, 1966, a review of the medical findings of the fourteen day Gemini 7 mission and related flights was conducted. This review was organized at the request of Dr. George E. Mueller, Associate Administrator for Manned Space Flight, and consisted of presentations by the Principal Investigators of the Gemini Medical Flight Experiments and by the Director, Medical Research and Operations, Manned Spacecraft Center. This document is a compilation of the material presented at the review. The Principals cooperated most significantly by reviewing a transcription of a tape recording of their presentation, editing and providing a final version for publication. Without this most generous assistance, this document could not have been published. Table I, which follows immediately after this Introduction, is presented to acquaint the reader with the scope and sequence of medical measurements and experiments which were conducted during Project Gemini. This review was held prior to the conduct of the Gemini 11 and 12 missions, therefore, material derived from those flights is not included in this document.
