First Wall Design of a Tokamak Pilot Plant Using a Monte Carlo Model for 3-D Heat Flux Deposition

We present a method for calculating the heat fluxes deposited on nonaxisymmetric tokamak first wall components, allowing for a first-of-its-kind model for power handling in the tokamak far scrape-off layer (SOL). The DIV3D Monte Carlo model features strict global power conservation and can calculate the finite cross-field plasma transport into magnetically-shadowed regions, which is significant when dealing with meter-scale shadows introduced by components such as poloidal limiters or antennas. As a case study, we apply the DIV3D model to inform the distribution of first wall poloidal limiters in an ARC-class reactor device. We demonstrate that discrete protection limiters can efficiently reduce peak heat fluxes on recessed breeder wall components in the presence of significant far-SOL plasma fluxes. By varying the toroidal periodicity and radial standoff depth of the limiters, we demonstrate one of the tradeoffs that must be considered in first wall design: more limiters provide greater protection, but at the cost of reduced breeding performance. We also present the impact that radial misalignments between limiters would have on first wall power loading.

High entropy oxides prediction and discovery by the Mixed Enthalpy-Entropy Descriptor

The vast, high-dimensional composition space of high-entropy oxides (HEOs) offers exceptional opportunities for functional materials discovery, yet it also poses a fundamental challenge: the rational and efficient prediction of stable, synthesizable compositions and the corresponding structure–property relationships. Despite growing interest, the field still lacks broadly applicable, physically grounded descriptors capable of navigating various large chemical spaces. Here, we introduce a Mixed Enthalpy–Entropy Descriptor (MEED) that enables rapid, first-principles–based prediction of HEOs synthesizability across diverse chemistries. Using MEED, we perform high-throughput screening of two distinct HEO families: rocksalt oxides and perovskite oxides. The predicted top candidates in each family were experimentally validated. MEED reveals unifying thermodynamic and structural principles governing stability across both chemical compositions and polymorphs, providing mechanistic insight into the formation of high-entropy phases. This work significantly broadens the accessible chemical design space for HEOs and establishes a data-efficient framework for accelerating the discovery of next-generation functional materials.

Robust Biaxial Anisotropy and Switchable Néel Vectors in LaFeO 3 Epitaxial Films

Antiferromagnets with highly stable but switchable Néel vectors are desired for antiferromagnetic spintronics with ultrafast speed and terahertz frequencies. Electrical switching of antiferromagnetic insulators has been demonstrated using binary antiferromagnets, while large families of complex antiferromagnets such as perovskites are largely unexplored. Here, we show that epitaxial LaFeO 3 thin films on SrTiO 3 (001) exhibit clear, robust biaxial anisotropy with a spin-flop field of a few tesla. Angular-dependent spin-Hall magnetoresistance (SMR) characterizations of Pt/LaFeO 3 bilayers with the current channel along SrTiO 3 [100] and [110] reveal distinct, intriguing shapes and field dependence. Simulations using a macrospin model accurately describe the main behavior and fine features of the SMR data from which key antiferromagnetic parameters are extracted. Furthermore, remanent SMR measurement confirms the high fidelity of the Néel vector along either easy axis of the biaxial anisotropy, indicating that epitaxial films of LaFeO 3 and potentially other perovskite antiferromagnets offer an attractive platform for antiferromagnetic spintronics.

Calibration of the Nonlinear Viscoelastic SPECtacular Model for 828-CTBN/DEA/GMB and 828/Z/AlOx

Nonlinear viscoelastic model calibrations are developed for two filled epoxies: an adduct of Epon 828 DGEBA and CTBN cross-linked with diethanolamine (DEA) filled with glass microballoons, called 828-CTBN/DEA/GMB, and Epon 828 DGEBA cross-linked with Ancamine Z and filled with alumina, called 828/Z/AlOx. The thermo-mechanical responses of these materials are represented using the SPECtacular constitutive model, an extension of the Simplified Potential Energy Clock (SPEC) model. The model couples
