Confidence Level Based Approach to Total Dose Specification for Spacecraft Electronics

A confidence level based approach to total dose radiation hardness assurance is presented for spacecraft electronics. It is applicable to both ionizing and displacement damage dose. Results are compared to the traditional approach that uses radiation design margin and advantages of the new approach are discussed.

Inclusion of Radiation Environment Variability in Total Dose Hardness Assurance Methodology

Variability of the space radiation environment is investigated with regard to parts categorization for total dose hardness assurance methods. It is shown that it can have a significant impact. A modified approach is developed that uses current environment models more consistently and replaces the design margin concept with one of failure probability.

TID Test Results for 4th Generation iPad(TradeMark)

TID testing of 4th generation iPads is reported. Of iPad subsystems, results indicate that the charging circuitry and display drivers fail at lowest TID levels. Details of construction are investigated for additional testing of components.

Neural Networks Based Approach to Enhance Space Hardware Reliability

This paper demonstrates the use of Neural Networks as a device modeling tool to increase the reliability analysis accuracy of circuits targeted for space applications. The paper tackles a number of case studies of relevance to the design of Flight hardware. The results show that the proposed technique generates more accurate models than the ones regularly used to model circuits.

Total dose dependency and ELDRS effects on bipolar linear devices

The use of bipolar linear devices is prevalent in most satellite and some space applications. However, degradation as a result of low dose irradiations known as ELDERS (effects of enhanced low dose rate sensitivity) is a major concern when selecting flight hardware. Many studies and reports have been conducted on this possible phenomenon as well as their responsible physical mechanisms.

Total dose bias dependency and ELDRS effects in bipolar linear devices

Total dose tests of several bipolar linear devices show sensitivity to both dose rate and bias during exposure. All devices exhibited Enhanced Low Dose Rate Sensitivity (ELDRS). An accelerated ELDRS test method for three different devices demonstrate results similar to tests at low dose rate. Behavior and critical parameters from these tests are compared and discussed.
